Why do old people need everything right away?

Aren't you supposed to mellow out when you get older? I really hope I'm not like the other old people that I see you courtesy of my post title. I work for a guy who is 72 and when he needs something he needs it like he was supposed to go urinate yesterday. I do a great job for him and he always blames it on me and something is always wrong and he needs everything right away. I work for five hours today took a short break and he rushed into the break room telling me that I don't think you understand how important this next project is to get out. And because he's cheap I'm not even a real employee I'm just an independent contractor who he treats as a employee. I'm about to tell him GTFO.

No offense to the old people here and I love you all and you are all bass players but I don't understand why it's so difficult.

not all old people need everything right away. my mom was in an assisted living home for a while, and most of the people there were between 65 and 85 and weren't impatient. yes, a couple were, but then there are lots of young and middle-aged people who are also very impatient.

I don't think it's so much that old people need everything right away... I'd say that's more like the younger generation that I'm a part of. At least that goes for material needs (amazon prime and other clones, etc. wanting to be able to do something perfectly the first time) I think it's more that older people are from a generation where if your responsibility was to do something, you did it then and got it done. Most of the older people I knew worked hard first and play came later, if there was even time.

I'm not going to act like I know this guy, or even your situation, but having worked at a nursing home and being around seniors most of my life (I'm almost 30), I understand where they are coming from. That said, some people do have pretty impossible expectations, but I've also understood that if they act like they wanted it done yesterday, it's just extremely important and they are trying to hammer into you how important it is, and how imperative it is that it gets finished as quickly as humanly possible.

Yeah, dude, calm down.

Following your same line of ignorant thinking is how people become racist, sexist, ageist, etc....
“this one person did so and so to me, and they’re not like me, therefore everyone like them is bad”.

That’s quite an enormous leap, from one person to the entire population.
I assume you’re young, and the title of this thread was more for effect, but that’s still not much of an excuse for such an ignorant statement.

You’re boss is a jerk.
You had a bad day.
End of story.

Nobody likes being patient. Sure, some are better at it than others, but nobody would prefer to wait longer for anything if the thing they were getting were of the same quality. Some people are also just entitled, for whatever reason. Some jobs are nice because of what you're doing, some jobs are nice because of your management or coworkers, some are nice because of various perks - and others really just suck.

My belief is that people get purer as they get older. I don't mean that as a necessarily good thing. In effect, whatever they spend their lives doing and thinking and feeling, they get more and more practice at, so that gets intense while other qualities atrophy away. If someone spends their life being basically selfish, as they get older it gets distilled to greater and greater pure selfishness. If they spend their lives pursuing wisdom, then in old age they are sages. If they spend their lives practicing compassion, then they become utter angels when they're elderly. If they spend their lives impatient, then as old people they will have no patience for anything. Young cads become dirty old men. And so forth.

I think your problem is more you’re working as a Ind Contractor, for a guy that doesn’t have a lot of money and is probably just making it by.

I’d move on as soon as you can. It’s not going to get any better.

I prefer to think of aging as “distilling one’s essence”. Don’t expect a “pivot” from a guy like that. As we age, huge parts of our personalities are on autopilot, which corresponds to our dwindling resources to reshape them, even if desired. Old dog, new tricks, blah blah blah.

So, you're judging the entire population of seniors by one guy? That would be like me (I'm 75) saying all Millennials are lazy slackers you have to light a fire under to get them to do anything useful.

I think many of us older folks don't understand the impatience of of some of the yoots out there. In my day one had to wait a whole week for the next episode of a favorite TV show. Pre internet catalog shopping meant sending a check THROUGH THE MAIL and waiting two to three weeks for the check to clear and for the thing to be delivered. Seeing pictures of distant family Christmas would take months. The roll of film had to be finished, don't want to waste any frames. Then the film had to be developed then the reprints had to be made and then sent through the mail. All that stuff can be done instantly today. Imagine waiting a week to see the pic you just took with your phone.
