Why do people dislike you?

I don't think I'm actively disliked but I'm socially awkward and terrible with small talk in social settings. Which is odd, because I spend my work days talking to people (insurance agent/account manager) and have no problem with it in a work setting. I guess maybe I just don't have anything to say to anyone outside of work, my wife, and my brother....

After reading the other posts in this thread, apparently I am not alone in my unlikeability reasons. I think a lot of it comes down to not having any tolerance for faking enthusiasm and investing in a large cross section of the population.

I don't have any interest in the standard greeting conversations, not really interested in who got eliminated from "Dancing with the Stars" last night. I don't really make an effort to pretend otherwise. I love to talk, but usually will wait until I find someone who offers more than a discussion on the weather to open up and engage.

Due to my large size, I just look like a mean person.
I'm not very social and have limited interests so I find few reasons to be around people and when I am around people I dont find much to talk about.

This covers it for me mostly, plus a certain portion of the populace just don't like fat people. I used to be quite a bit more social before I quit drinking regularly.

"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood for something, sometime in your life." - Winston Churchill

I can get along with pretty much anyone, but I have a very low tolerance for stupidity, and not much of a filter, so I can cause some people to dislike me when I call people out on things I don't like.

Are you crazy?! What's not to like?!

Seriously though, I think because I have very deeply ingrained believes and opinions shaped around those beliefs and I'm out spoken about it.

Sadly, the Internet really only shows us in a rather 1 dimensional way so we often misinterpret each other on here. In reality, I'm extremely friendly in person and more often than not, make people laugh throughout the day. I've been told that I have "the gift (if you can use that term) of encouragement" and many people say they find me very encouraging and funny. I think on TB I come across as an a-hole most of the time......bummer. :scowl:

For the record, I've deleted nearly as many of my posts as I've actually posted here on TB because I try to censor myself. :help:

Generally speaking, why do people dislike you? Among my various detractors some would say I ask too many questions :p , while others would say I am cold and aloof.

People generally like me. I am well received at parties.

Honestly, I dont care to get to know most people well enough for them to dislike me, unless its for that reason

Yeah, that sounds a bit like me.
