Why do people dislike you?

I am actually pretty shy. I won't usually strike up conversations with people just to talk to them. So I present myself to others as stand off ish. I generally do not mingle and I don't like crowds. Which makes me seem arrogant. I am the polar opposite on stage though. Also, I am very good at sarcasm. People find me difficult to read and they find it hard to know if I am joking or not. Most of the time I am joking though. I have a very deep loyality to my friends and family and I stand up to anyone I perceive as a bully. Being bullied all my very young years, I am hyper sensitive to it and I can come across as mean or angry, but I am far from it. I will run to a fight, but work my mind off to find a way out of a fight and I never back down.. It gets me into spots here and there...

On a somewhat serious note, it's funny that we (myself included) all have our own personal narratives here that really just cast ourselves in backhanded positive lights. We don't put up with people's crap or we call them out when they're idiots: That's why people don't like us.

Is someone just gonna come out at say, "I'm a disrespective douchebag, who's rude, throws people under the bus when something is my fault, and I think I'm better than all of the peons," or "Well, I'm pretty much the bass playing embodiment of Puck from the Real World"? :D

I noticed that too. Only I didn't fall into the trap. :smug:

I thought I did, sorry.

I'm not a natually "happy" person. I can be a bit sullen & withdrawn. That combined with my looks (Kevin knows me) and it's a recipe for unpopularity. I'm told I'm intimidating. I don't try to be, I'm just being me. I really think the appearance is the biggest part of it all though.

Because I'm different; I use my brain and logic and won't hesitate to call anyone else out on their stupidity regardless of whether or not it is PC to do so at the time. I also have no interest in speaking to anyone unless it passes my rigorous testing of its import.

:D

In all honesty most folks generally like me...but I have extremes of crippling social awkwardness and overly comfortable sarcastic douchebaggery. Haven't quite figured out that middle ground yet...

Also, just in these past 5 years or so of my life I apparently look intimidating to people...I don't get that one

That almost actually makes sense...only it used to be I was the quiet one who got picked on, now I'm the quiet one who you don't wanna mess with!!! Maybe I'm just about to blow all that suppressed rage at any moment, and everyone else can see it but me :help:

I like George Carlin's take on it,

"It's the quiet ones you've gotta watch. everytime you see a story about a serial criminal on tv what do they do? They bring on the neighbor and the neighbor says 'weeeell, he was always very quiet' and someone in the room says 'It's the quiet ones you gotta watch'.

This sounds to me like a very dangerous assumption - I will bet you anything that while you're watching someone quiet a noisy one will f'ing kill you. Suppose you're in a bar and one of the guys is sitting over to the side reading a book not bothering anybody another guy's standing in the front with a machette bangin' on the bar saying 'I'll kill the next mf'er who comes in here!' - who you gonna watch?"
