Why Do People Play With SWRs

Well, actually, there's an article on the bassplayer websight somewhere that lists off about 10 different amps and cabs he used (at the same time no less), including Ampeg (which he uses live) swr, marshall, ect...

But nobody really answered his ill-phrased question. What is it about SWR's that make you use them? I've never even SEEN on before, so I was kinda wondering.

I can't believe how long this topic has been running!! We SWR users use SWR because we like them, period. They fulfill our expectations of what an amp should or shouldn't do. I imagine this is the same reason everyone else picks what ever brand they use. To each his own.

Well, I realize that, but I was wondering what exactly those expectations are. Are they punchy? Do they have lots of low end, ect...

Lot's of pure CLEAN power.

Now that's better. And, as it turns out, something I might be interested in. By clean I assume you mean un-distorted. I gennerally don't like it when my amp distorts at all, unless I tell it to. Are they at all usefull in a rock band?

Does that mean it's very unlikely to 'distort' (like, not 'pure' distortion like out of a lead channel or a distortion pedal, but more of a forcing-the-speaker distortion) when you hit the strings with a reasonably large amount of force?

SWR's pretty much won't put out any kind of distortion without some type of effect pedel. I use a Digitech BP8. Concerning the question about if they're good for rock, I play rock, they work fine for me. Try going to their website http://www.swreng.com. and look up the artists that use SWR: Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam), Michael Bradford (Kid Rock), Tony Campos (Static X), Jason Newsted (Metalicca), Robbie Merrill (Godsmack). I think I can safely say they work great for rock.
