Why do people think that other people prefer more or less notes?

Many of these preference issues run along generational divides. Have you been playing 14 months? 14 years? 25 years? Have you made it to your 5th decade of active music? What music did you hear in the house while you were growing up? These are clearly factors that influence our perceptions of ourselves and other musicians. If someone were to conduct a poll and organize TB musicians' backgrounds, certain trends will emerge. Background experience varies greatly among the TB readers here, therefore preferences are equally diverse. Why is anyone surprised by this? Any actuaries out there?

But should the bass clef remain in the grandstaff or exit? Each year millions of notes are sent to the grandstaff for little in return. And you get all those migrant notes...

After reading the "Why do people think that more notes = better" and "Why do people think that less notes = better" it brought me to ponder... Why do some people assume that other people prefer more or less notes in a general sense? I don't play "more notes" or "less notes" I play whatever serves the part of the song that I am playing. Sometimes it's more notes, sometimes its less notes, sometimes it's just right. Thoughts?

er... my opinion is basically that it's ALL good. just because someone doesn't care for something doesn't negate it - it just means they personally don't care for it. a lot of people seem mixed up on this point.

i don't think faster/slower/more notes/less notes is better. and i think fingerstyle is better... for me. in my universe, everyone's mileage may vary

Those were two lame threads (that I didn't read). Everyone knows that the correct number of notes is:

(number of measures in the song) / (number of dimes in your pocket + 1) * (sqrt(number of strings) + (number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin))

Hmmm ... there could be a "divide by zero" error in this ... so I amended the formula ...

Is that literal dimes or virtual dimes. I mean, if I had a quarter in my pocket would I use 0 or 2.5?
