Why do we pay before we get?

Just deal with reputable people and clearly spell out the terms of the transaction. When I sell an item on TB I typically ship within 24 hrs./next business day. If I can't do that then i communicate with the buyer and apprise him of the situation and let him know when to expect shipment.

really, fraud is likely either way, and sending payment first is more trackable, as stated before.

in reality, you pay first.

OP, do you go to concerts and ask to pay as you leave rather than go in?

thanks for the input folks. yes, I think a couple of posts got deleted, which I am fine with (kind of scary to delete part of your mental history - "i know I posted it in here somewhere, where is it?")

as for concerts, i guess I am weird. i actually dont like the fact that we pay $50 for a concert and they could come on for 5 minutes and leave. there is no set time limit that they agree to play for. unlike most "services" that are provided, which is usually "we will do BLANK no matter how long it takes". except moving services, which is usually by the hour.

i am sure all of you are a great number of respectable consumers and no one will have an issue with TB. lets hope so! my life moto: "do the right thing" works in any situation

it's called the UCC, and it is the basis for most commercial transaction law around the world. the reason for this and many other things transaction-related are spelled out in it.

if you're not a licensed business, then once you transfer an item to another person, they -own- it, and you are left with very little recourse to get your money.

in fact, the worst problems we've ever had at talkbass that were unable to be solved were when buyers only sent part of the money and then, when they received the item, skipped out on the rest of the transaction. dude here, who was involved with a big publication and fairly well known, pulled that when he bought a bass from a guy in italy - got the seller to send the bass when it was only 1/2 paid for, then skipped out on paying for the rest of the instrument - about a thousand bucks. lied about it to everyone he met too, real piece of work.

so never send an item to a buyer until you have all the money you're expecting to get from the transaction.
