Why do you own more then one bass?

Why? Because I enjoy owning more than one bass, in the same way that I enjoy owning more than one pair of pants. Let's be honest, I could probably get away with only one of each but let's enjoy being alive before the good times are gone for good.

Different Tones and Styles some have flats some have round wound strings one is a acoustic electric most I bought when I was younger and just hung on to them because they are great players 9 all together as of today you never know what tomorrow will bring.
All see gigs nothing is home collecting dust.

simple...I like my basses. I am a hobby player. I play because I enjoy it. I have the basses I do because of the pleasure I get from them. For me, that is justification enough

I'm 42 and have been playing for almost 30 years. Over that period of time, I've been in different moods and had different interests, so I've acquired a lot of instruments. I generally have only sold the ones that are production and bone stock, leaving me with about six unique ones. None of which I plan to get rid of.

It's easier and cheaper and maybe even more gratifying than having multiple girlfriends or cars or boats or houses etc...

They sound, look and play differently to each other.

I've got a Rick 4003 with low action, 40-100 steel rounds, a deluxe P V with 45-130 nickel rounds for the low B (for those occasions where the low notes come in handy and for certain songs... it's the bread winner), a Stingray with 45-105 nickel rounds for its fast neck and aggressive tone and a Hoppus P that gets swapped about with nickel rounds and flats every few months or so (I'm planning some major mods on that one).

I like chocolate but it's nice to be able to have strawberry and vanilla too.

Yep. I do.

For one, I like different basses. Actually, I like basses, period.
Secondly, one can be used as my spare in case the other one can't be used for whatever reason.
One is active, one is passive.
One sounds modern, one sounds classic.
One is lighter, one is heavier.
One is cheaper, one more expensive.

The first one is an Ibanez GSR200FM, which I sometimes tune DGCF for some songs that require that lower D. The second one is a Fender MIM Std. Jazz, which I always leave on EADG.

Eventually, I'll want to add a 5-stringer and a fretless. Possibly a short-scale too.
