99%?of All the great songs from the 50's thru 80's were written for and played on a four.

I don't play 4 string basses ... I cannot find a single reason to play a 4 ... I have 15 basses and none of them is a 4

Because it gives me an excuse to shop for 4-string counterparts to my favorite 5-strings.

Seriously @twinjet, I enjoy the brain exercise of switching between them. I don't consider a 4-string bass as a limitation, besides being somewhat used to having the B-string low notes available.
