BECAUSE 4 STRINGS WERE ENOUGH FOR JACO!!!
True....but 4 is not enough for me, and I don't see Jaco playing any metal.

) it just depends on if your gonna use the extra range...and honestly im not a fan of the low b...i have to use it in my band because of the way the guitarists are tuned......thats why i keep one of my 5 strings tune E/A/D/G/C..theres alot of potential with the extra strings depending on what you play...its all about what you prefer....oh,and all the guys mentioned that made all thier hits playing four strings....yea,in a band situation (because you have a lead guitarist) it makes sense...but they all keep extended range basses at home...:scowl:
So let me get this straight....Bear with me, I'm a little slow on the uptake here. I've learned a thing or two on TB. Since my time here I learned that, in order to be a respected bassist, one must:
-Buy the cheapest gear money can buy. The more expensive the bass, the worse the player.
-Not learn theory. It stifles creativity.
-Only play instruments that someone else has played. If Jaco wouldn't touch it, neither should I.
-Don't work on technique. This instantly turns one into a robot with no feel, who can only play fast.
-Don't embrace new technology. And if you are proven wrong in a blind test, bring up the fact that it wasn't accurate becasue the eq curves were slightly askew.
Hmmm. Interesting.![]()
I just like five strings. I feel no need to justify it to anyone.
just giving you guys a little taste of what i've dealt with for the past 15 years (last time i played anything with less than 7 strings)..

it doesnt matter how many strings you play....music isnt a contest...i play 4/5/7 string basses and rotate them throughout all my music.....(well not so much the four) it just depends on if your gonna use the extra range...and honestly im not a fan of the low b...i have to use it in my band because of the way the guitarists are tuned......thats why i keep one of my 5 strings tune E/A/D/G/C..theres alot of potential with the extra strings depending on what you play...its all about what you prefer....oh,and all the guys mentioned that made all thier hits playing four strings....yea,in a band situation (because you have a lead guitarist) it makes sense...but they all keep extended range basses at home...:scowl:
