Sounds like me. I practiced music 5-10 hrs per day playing bass, electric guitar & voice.I probably shouldn’t say this here, but I am going to be completely honest: when I was young I practiced excessively. I wanted to be better than everyone else, and I wanted to learn as much as possible about music.
and I did it. After about 20 years I was one of the best in my area, and I had a Music degree, and good equipment, and an expert understanding of music theory. And every once in a while I would get a really important gig, and I would practice for it.
now for the honesty. When I hit 40 I reasoned that I was as good as I ever needed to be, so I simply stopped practicing. I am no longer concerned with improving my own playing. If I’m really being honest, not only am I not improving, I am probably also deteriorating — little by little, in the subsequent 20 years.
