Why does AUDIOSLAVE'S new CD suck?

First off: Audioslave is *not* breaking up. I don't know where that rumor came from, but the band members have come out and said that's totally false. Cornell is doing a solo album, though.
That being said, I didn't think the new Audioslave album was that bad. It's not as good as their first one, but it's a lot better than Out of Exile. It's funny though, I think on their first album it felt a lot more like Rage, and on Revelations they've really picked up a Soundgarden vibe. When are they going to stop playing "All-Star Band" songs and start making songs as Audioslave?
Meh. Rage Against The Machine was really great IMO (and Soundgarden was pretty good as well)... But barring the band dumping Cornell and bringin Zach back, which I doubt is oging to happen, we'll be stuck listening to these guys attempting to be what they once were.
(Oh, and am I the only one who thinks Cornell isn't that good of a singer anymore? He sounds decent on the recorded albums, but every single live track from Audioslave I've heard has been pretty awful--Live in Cuba, Sessions @ AOL, various other live things I've heard from them... The band's great, but Cornell isn't

Sadly, you are right. I saw them on the tour for the first album and Cornell was very close to terrible. His voice was gone after the fourth song. And more recently, what he does to the older material of both bands live is really kind of tragic. It's hard to believe this is the same guy who sang Soundgarden tunes like Outshined, Hands All Over, Birth Ritual. It's gotta be tough for him.

i think thats interesting--your first few points are still the same as what they did in ratm--brad always played the same drum line the whole song through--no dynamics, no nothing...a drum machine could have taken his place there too.de la mocha said:

i like rage, and i like audioslave, but its strange to me that the OP hates audioslave for doing the same things that were present in RATM. I think comparing audioslave to rage is what makes most people turn their backs on audioslave...what i think the band should have done after ratm is say that rage is done, and so are they...then they should have changed each of their names, and then hit the scene as audioslave. then people would see the band for its merits, and not by how they compare to their last band.
You dudes can hate on RATM if you want, but you'd be hard pressed to convince me that Audioslave has anything in it better than Soundgarden. Chris' vocal range on Badmotorfinger and to some degree Superunknown is absolute raw, emotional power, and it's something he's never really reached since.
What's also sad is that members from two of the '90s most groundbreaking and original bands are now doing something entirely formulaic and trying to be the next U2.

I love RATM and soundgarden..and temple of the dog. but everything I've heard from audioslave has been boring imho.
But thank God for musicians like Tom....take's us outta the same old **** that everyone does. I'm not crazy about all of his sonic choices but I admire his creativity. I read the latest article in guitar world on him...good stuff.

Look at Rage against the machine's discogrophy. Each album had songs on their that sounded different from the rest. Zack voice was limited but he made each song an individual entity by changing his flow and rhyming style to fit each song.
Look songs like Revolver, freedom, bulls on parade, gurilla radio, mic check, all of rage against the machine songs not only kicked ass but they differed so much from each other and had different twists and parts in many of them.
Audioslave however is boringly straight foward riffs---stupid solo---riffs. The beats don't change and there are no break downs or nothing exciting thrown in. To me, the drummer was more sophisticated with rage against the machine like on revolver or freedom, and morello was more loose also and his solos didn't suck back then. Maybe his over the top hi-tech solos worked for rage but he should actually play a guitar solo in audioslave for once. And chris cornell sounds like he's constipated trying to take a dump in most of the songs. I lost faith in these guys....
That Cornell guy's voice sucks the space out of almost every song he sings on. His voice just hogs all the room. There were few with Soungarden that I thought he did well with as well.
The rest of the guys are O.K. But I am bored with the "heavy trips" and "heavy tone" rock. It is all a bore and not much fun.
