Why does everyone misspell my last name?

WAYYY back in college, people assumed that was my nickname.
I was popular and had no idea why

i am sooo glad to see i am not the only one to suffer from this problem. i grew up hearing my mom ALWAYS say, and then spell, our last name. thing is, tho it is not an american name, it is stupid easy to get right.

my sister escaped the trouble by marrying a guy with the last name: zygmuntowicz. easy to say, heck to spell. i would hate to see their mail.

My sister married a guy named Wojtaszek. I'm 100% sure they don't pronounce it correctly themselves, but neither does anyone else. I was at her house one time and answered the phone, and the telemarketer guy said "Mister Wah-juh-tau-ski?" I just hung up.
My name is gaeilge, I've yet to come across anyone who doesn't speak gaeilge who can spell it properly from hearing it, or pronounce it by reading it!

My first name is Cameron, and it can get a little degrading telling dingus after dingus that its Cameron, like Cameron Diaz. Shes the one with the weird name, not me goshdarndit!

You would honestly be surprised how many people have a problem spelling.... "Gus"... I get "Guss" with often.. what like it's short for Gussell (like Russ- russell.. not)?? Or there is Goss, Gas.. yes.. the list goes on..
If it makes the OP feel any better: my wife's name is Betsy, and 4 out of 5 people spell it "Besty".

Honestly, if I was going to misspell your name, I'd likely leave a T out of Matthew! You need 2 for Matt, but the second one only interferes with the phonetics of Matthew.
Look into it, and see what you can do.
