Why does TB “auto bump” sales threads?

I am constantly getting alerts and emails on “recent posts” on sale threads that havent been posted in for weeks!...To the point where i have unwatched EVERY sales thread.
Its still happening, clogging up our New Posts thread.
Just scroll down on one that has multiple posts...ooh look there was a response 18 minutes ago. Click on it and yea, nothing has been posted in a month. Not even a “bump” post by the seller.
I have brought this to Paul’s attention months and months ago, to the point i have taken screen shots ti prove it and let him check out my alerts in mail.
That is crap....because it looks like its happening on purpose.
Not cool

Never had anything like that happen to me. I got nuthin, except what Gorn suggested.

Your account, Alert Preferences?

It kind of sounds like your browser is serving up cached page views without refreshing.

It’s probably a problem with your settings.

Really?...go to page 2 of New Posts thread and find a sales thread that has multiple responses on it. Not everyone, but chances are its saying there was a post within a 30minute period.....but then you click on thread and nobody has responded for awhile.
You would think after giving the founder of this website months and moths ago a heads up on this with picture proof he would say, "check this setting" if it was one. Don't you think?

For sale threads are bumped by clicking the bump button, not by responses to the thread. Someone could’ve started it a year ago and bumped it every day without anyone posting. It’s been that way for a few years now. It’s gotta be your settings.

Go to New Posts...about page 2 or 3 then check this sales thread out

2015 Fender USA Jaguar w/ Lollar P, Fralin Humbucking J, Nordstrand Pre

Says Goad responded recently and its been awhile.
The clicking of the bump button is the response. I’d agree that’s an imprecise use of the word response.

I may be wrong. I don’t think I am, but I might be.

You're correct, this is exactly what is occurring. The post gets bumped up by the "bump" button but the "new posts" listing only shows the last post, that is what is causing the confusion.

Ok, I just got it to sort of happen. This thread says Updated a moment ago, but there’s no update I can see.

For Sale - EA Doubler new price 5

I suspect that’s a lag in the forum software updating the database though. Or something. Just guessing.

yep exactly. May 29th was the last post on that.

Thats some lag lol. Considering i noticed this last summer, i suspect its being its being done for a reason. But hey, at least give up the option of turning it off. Main reason i don't even hit the like button on a sales thread. Then i have to un-subscribe or else I'm getting false notifications/emails/alerts. :-(

This is interesting, from the Classifieds TOS which I’ve never read. :)

How to BUMP:
Simply push the "Bump Thread" button, located directly next to "Post Reply", on your classifieds thread. After clicked, the "Bump Thread" button will display a live timer showing when you may next bump your thread. No replies by you or anyone else will bump a classifieds thread.
