If you changed the old speakers with new ones, you'd have less low end, lower sensitivity and less articulation.

Well I'd disagee with the low end part. Granted My '73s were not reconed or remagged or whatever it is they do to make a speaker like new again, but the Eminence/Ampeg replacements have tons more low end in my vintage cab. Maybe a rebuilt vintage speaker would yield a different result? I didnt measure the sensitivity & don't much care if the speaker sounds good since I can always turn up the volume knob. the new speakers definately have less articulation with the eq settings on the amp set flat. But an adjustment of the amp's eq brings to life the new speakers in the old cab. The vintage speakers were almost too bright for my tastes, but I play thrash metal so take that with a grain of salt. I am very pleased with the results of new Eminence speakers in my vintage cab. and no, PBG, you cant have my old speakers

No surprise there. One major difference between '60s vintage drivers and today's is that modern drivers are actually designed for either guitar or bass use; for the most part that was not the case forty years ago. An examination of drivers used in amps of the 50s and 60s

Thanks! I wonder about that... I love my EVM 15s but wonder if their time has passed compared to other more recent designs from Eminence or others.

Eminence informed me that since the current OEM driver is still in production that its T/S specs are proprietary to Ampeg and can only be disclosed by them. They did provide me with T/S specs for a virtually identical driver, as a courtesy, and as a courtesy to both Eminence and Ampeg I will not reveal them. But I can assure that it's not a high powered driver. If you want more information ask Ampeg.

I was under the impression that if you send an email message to [email protected] with the Spec. No. of an OEM driver (the number from the little silver sticker on the side of the magnet or inside the frame, that starts with the diameter of the speaker...10 in. speakers have spec nos. beginning with 10, 15s with 15, etc.), they'll provide the T-S parameters. They won't if you ask "What are the T-S parameters for an Ampeg SVT speaker?".

I know that this has worked for Eminence OEM 10s used by another company who's name starts with A... And I recently asked for/and received the T-S parameters for some Eminence built GK Paragon 10s that I saw on eBay.

And it's not like we can really cause any trouble if we had 'em anyway... Who's going to take the T-S parameters for the SVT 10 and make an aftermarket SVT-style recone kit for Madison Warrior 10s (or similar Chinese made speakers)???

Yes and no. Most of the magic of EVMs is their high frequency response, and that comes from their very tight manufacturing tolerances. Almost too tight; the SROs before them would develop voice coil rub if you looked at them the wrong way. As much as I like Eminence products they don't have the tight coil clearance, and therefore the high end, that the EVs did. But on the other hand a 15B won't touch a Kappalite 15LF for low end output, and the Kappalite weighs a third what the EV does. My last remaining EVM15B is sitting on a shelf, not worth what it would cost to ship it.
