if you have a 9volt in the back of your bass and it is starting to lose its juice it makes the exact sound you are describing. just check to see if you have one in your electronics compartment
Ack! That's a good way to kill your amp. If your run too much power through it, it could short out and fry your head. Use only speaker cables for speakers. This is a connection problem. Do what I said in my earlier post.
Man, don't people read up on how to do stuff anymore? This info will be in the manual for your amp!
Bass amps 101, never use a guitar cable to hook up an amp to speakers.
There's a 99.9% chance that this is the problem, and I hope your brand new amp and cab is still OK.

dude, glad to see that you finally got your head, but sorry to read about the problem
read thru the whole thread & all i have to say is, do not,, repeat,, do not plug your head to your cab without a proper shielded speaker connection cable, either 1/4" or speakon
