I have been using my ABM 500 for more than 10 years now, and have never found a better sounding bass amp for overall great tone. Deep and full. I have been playing for over 50 years, and have tried many different rigs. This is the one. Per my earlier post, I generally run it through 2 ABM 115 compact cabs.I really don't know as I have never played out of an ABM. I can only say that I have read that the Rootmaster has been compared to the MAG series and that the Shape button boosts the lows and highs making it sound like an ABM, IDK. When I first tried using the Shape on a gig for 1 song, I thought it was going to sound muddy due to how low it got, but I actually loved the tone and feel I got out of it. I pretty much now run the Rootmaster with the setting on my picture but with the middle knob now at 12:00, everything else stays the same as the picture and it sounds great. Very similar to my GK 700rb II as strange as that may sound to some.
Anyway, sorry for the long winded post. To answer your original question, I don't know.

Never played their top of the line or tube offerings. Of the two I've actually used on a gig, I struggled to find a tone setting that made my ears happy. That alone turned me off to even looking at them with so many other top tier contenders that blow them away, at least to me. Not interested at all.
Agree with your opinion per the discontinued gear. Just last week, I purchased an Ashdown Vintage 12 combo. Got a very good deal on it from MF, but noticed it was already on the Legacy Products area on Ashdown's website.

I gig an ABM 410. There is a mind blowing number of differences in this one model over the years. Constant revision of the model.
I just got a great deal for the Ashdown Evo 1200. only $700. cheaper than the 600. Just need to get a good cabinet now. Just found an avatar 2x12 going to try that. The only reason i dont use my ashdown evo combo anymore is it was stolen. Loved that amp and i beat the S%*% out of it
Did Ashdown make any neo cabs and if so, do you like the way they sound.

Their RM EVO series are their lightweight cabs. I think they sound great and they're pretty cheap too. I have 2 210s (33lbs) and 2 410s (46lbs). Got rid of my 2 410 ABMS (80lbs) to lighten my load.
I have an ABM500 and just bought a GS112!! The reason I bought the Aguilar was how my head sounded through it. I plan to use the GS112 on gigs where I am running through our PA and keeping stage volume to a minimum. It will sure beat lugging my ABM410h cab to every gig! My back will be thanking me for it.
Considering it puts out 600 watts through two separate power amps.. That you can run simultaneously... You may need to get a couple extra cabinets! What about two 810s?
I've never played an Ashdown amp before but they've always been in the back of my mind because of bassists like John Entwistle, Adam Clayton, James Lomenzo and more recently John Myung using them.
From what I've heard from YouTube demos and live recordings is that Ashdown amps have treble and top end. That's all I can really say about them. I've never really been convinced on the quality of the low-end in said demos, videos and recordings. I happen to like Entwistle's absurdly overdriven/chorus'ed tone on the Royal Albert Hall DVD, but listening to the U2 Chicago 2005 DVD on the other hand all I could hear from Adam Clayton was a lot of clank, not a lot of low end (Then again it could be because of the pick).
That being said I did find a demo that convinced me somewhat of Ashdown's low end quality, and I think I was won over more by the Retroglide head (Especially at the 1:45 mark) and it's one I wouldn't mind buying second-hand.
Am I missing something or would I have to try one out to "get it"?
