Why so many fat bass players?

Although I'm in good shape I still weigh 250, and I used to weigh almost 400 (!!!). I was the Round Mound of Sound.

There is no way i could read this whole thread, however my opinion is going to be given anyway lol
I honestly think its a mix of a couple things:
1) The way a bass is set up, just allows bigger people ease of use. For example, how times have you heard someone say (who usually doesnt play any instrument) "I could never play guitar, my hands are too big" when that guy decides to play something, its usually a bass. It allows for 'fat' hands and fingers which wont hinder talent, like 'fat' fingers on a guitar would..
2) The 'laid-backness' of big guys just allows the groove to free flow. If you liken instruments to the player (like people say owners look like their dogs/pets) the guitar attracts people with more energy, hyper perhaps, small, high pitched people haha
The bass attracts big, mellow, powerful groove machines lol
Also, on a couple other notes from the posts I have read:
Just because you have diabetes does not make you overweight, just to specify type 1 and type 2 are way different.
And, we just cant count black people in this, they are just always good at everything musical, its like saying "white guys are good at going bald" they can't help it, its genetic lol

I find this interesting. My initial post was 2 years ago, and while I don't remember exactly what I was thinking when I posted it, I know it was 1/2 serious, 1/2 toungue in cheek. My expectations were that people would have fun with it, and I believe that's exactly what heppened. Did I miss where this turned bad? Perhaps you have some expectaions.
That being said I think there's some truth in what recreate.me said.

Because the low frequencies of the bass has been scientifically proven through years of clinical research trials to significantly slow down the human metabolism!
I love how I'm already several pages in and not one person complained about the being black makes you a better bassist comment... That **** is just a fact.
I'm a big dog myself, but I was a big guitarist for years before I became a big bassist. I can tell you that there seems to be a lot less pressure to get in shape when you're the bass player. I've recently started trying to drop some weight and our singer was all like "You're the bass player you're allowed to be big." Of course, ill be big no matter what I do. I'm 6'3" with shoulders like an NFL lineman. No amount of cardio and salads is going to transform me into your average puny rock star type, but that's ok I have no desire to wear women's jeans anyway.

This thread is so depressing. I am not fat (not much anyway), nor black so maybe I should give up the bass.
