Why so many fat bass players?

Jeez... Worked for a man once who wouldn't hire "overweight" sales staff. Pathetic..... I been big and I been thin in my years. Don't make a tinkers damn. I'll hold down the bottom tight as anyone. Long as my belt holds up my britches, what's it matter?... I just don't understand why appearance is of such importance these days.

To which I add to the Gallery of Fat Phenoms: Corky Laing, playing "Heavy Chair"

And
Yes, and:

And, and...ME! But I ain't got a recent pic of my Leviathan-ness. It may be because we'uns are all Southern boys--at least I THINK Laing is--and can't pass up a hearty breakfast of biscuits 'n gravy, butter-oozing grits, a nice portion of ham steak w/red-eye gravy...and a dollop of corn fritters (aka "hushpuppies") with home fries on the side.

Wow... 9 years ago...

I just learned what makes people fat, today :).

But seriously...

I'm vegetarian for about 25 years. In May my blood work came up with high cholesterol. The bad kind. Was told its probably hereditary since I eat more healthfully than most AND exercise regularly. But the test results literally scared the cheese out of me. I started limiting my cheese (the only dairy I eat) to 2 meals a week.

In 2 months my blood went back to normal, and I dropped about 7 lbs. Without trying. I didn't really need to lose weight, but I ain't complaining.

Just watched this today, plus I'm getting flooded with lots of similar info. We are SOOO duped by big industry. And fair warning - if you poke this hornets nest, there are many more hornets inside. They will come out :). I may in fact take that nest over to the lobby later.

This is an hour long, but hey... it just might save someone's life.

Was just looking at the back cover of the new BP mag. Then watched a couple of videos in current threads. Why so many fat bass players, and how come fat bass players can become famous, but not fat guitarists or singers? Does being fat make a better bass player? Like being black makes a better bass player? And being a girl makes a worse drummer? There are a lot of really great fat black bass players. Great fat white ones too. What with the fat? I wanna know.
Maybe it is a ratio thing?
As the world's population adopts an "American" diet, they are becoming fatter. More over weight people in general would translate to more over weight bass players.

The life of a working musician isn't particularly healthy. Long and late hours, eating whatever is around, weird sleep patterns, often at least some drinking; it really isn't a wonder that so many musicians die young.
