Why so many folks selling Shuttle 9.0s?

Maybe i over spoke when saying that the lights dont matter. They do... but i just never watch them.. thats just me though.. Im the type of guy that would put duct tape over all lights except the ON/OFF indicator.:smug:
your profile says you use a streamer bass... I dont know if that has HOT out or not.. My sadowsky will only OL th einput if i turn the BASS knob on the bass all the way up... which i never do. I usually run my basses with the preamp off.

I do know that the VOL knob, the one after the Input Gian knob also will make the RED OL light come on even if the GAIN is lower..
Have you tried running the Gian and Vol at perhaps 12 oclock for starters, then use Master to taste?
Like i said i run my Sadowskys and Allevas with Preamps OFF so i have to turn up the input fairly high to about 3 oclock... then i will run my second Vol at about 1 to 3 oclock and set master as needed.
From my perspective i look at it like a Mixing Console since i come from a studio background.
The First know is Channel Trim, the the next is Channel Vol then the Master is well the master output.. just like a mixing board..
I only wish i could get my 9.0 to distort on the input... i guess my basses are not hot enough..

Not sure most of the time I use a single 8 ohm Golight 1x15 and it just kills. Massive low end thump with plenty of articulation. Ususlly I turn the master to 12:00 with this setup but I have the Gain and Volume on 12 as well for that clean marine sound.

I think the thing that is making folks think these amps are not as loud (at first glance) is the amount of gain in the front of the amp.

Like I siad before my LMIII would clip with a passive P Bass if I turned the input gain past two (the second dot up from zero). It's like the MarkBass amps are wide open when you start playing.

The most similar situation I can come up with is when guys say a Crest CA-9 is louder than another power amp of the same output specs. It is not louder it just gets there quicker. The CA-9 has a way hotter input gain and gets to full power sooner than most other amps. Once you take both amps to full output you see where the magic beans went (out the window). :o

Genz has addressed this issue in the Max heads, which have an input boost button that allows those of us with more typical input signals (for example, I run my Markbass gain at around noon, which does not clip even at my hardest slap hits on the B string) to generate a moderate amount of overdrive in the tube channel. Great idea. The Max heads, in essence, have both a pad and a boost button all in one, to pretty much address every possible input signal level. Very nice.

If you have a ridiculously hot input signal due to very aggressive technique, a preamp with either a tube (assuming you like some tube distortion) or an amp with a pad (like the Shuttle Max heads) would be key getting the most out of an amp. A SS preamp being overloaded can sound a LOT like the amp running out of steam, and heads like the MB would not really work very well, since there is no input pad. Of course, for 99% of players, this is not an issue.

To get an optimum 'clean, full input but not clipped' tone on the 9, I found the gain 1 control set around 3 o'clock and the secondary gain all the way up pretty much matched the 'noon' setting on my MB heads, FYI. So, our 'input signal strength' must be very similar.

I can't say anything on 9.0, but my 12.0 ShuttleMax and 212T Neox does all I need. Every now and then I'll bring along the 112T Neox , more for show than anything. It gets used in small venues and does well for me.
Sometimes I think my rig don't sound right, different rooms different accoustics. Nearly everytime though some musician will compliment me on the sound of my rig.
I guess you can say I'm hooked on Genz Benz.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever the case I'm just giddy with happiness over the 9.0.:hyper:

I owned the Shuttle Max 12.0 and it is a great amp as well. I'd like to see a Shuttle Max 9.0 to allow me two channels, one for UB and one for EB. Along with a pair of Ubber 2x12's or dare I say a pair of Ubber 1x15's. :bassist::hyper::hyper::bassist:

Just another user experience with the 9 - I play in a 3 piece metal band, run the 9 with a Barefaced Compact (a 3015 driver I think). Took the rig out for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and cranked it - pre set at 3pm and 1pm, eq pretty flat, master at 3pm and the extra low added. It killed everyone - we have a loud drummer, and the guitarist is always cranked.

With my single 15 inch speaker at 8ohms, 500w, he cranked the marshall (JCM800?) with a 412 cabinet, and ended up gining up and adding another 100W guitar amp in stereo to keep up!! I still cut through with thick, tubey bass that blew everyone away!

One of the best rehearsals......even though our ears were bleeding by the end of it!! And certainly tonally the best I've ever sounded.

Everyone expects or wants something different, I've found a flavour that I love, and am sticking with it! I'm alsmost frightened to add another cab! :bassist:

Well the suggestion here is my Shuttle 9.0 is defective and is not putting out as much volume as everyone else. I can't tell if that is the case or its just a major difference in opinion on what loud is. If in fact my 9.0 is not putting out the volume that others are, I would like to remedy that.

I recently got into Upright Bass playing. A number of things I've gotten involved with lately call for it.

Any who yesterday I was able to run my UB into my Shuttle 9.0 at rehearsal. I'm using the Realist pickup. I only ran the one 1x15 8 ohm NEO vab. Can you say Boom Boom?

I did start to reach the feedback/loudness limittations of the Pickup as we progressivley got louder. We have some Gigs booked this weekend. I think I'll take my 8 ohm 2x10 along with my 1x15 to get a little extra snap out of it. We will be in a much bigger room wich should help as well.

The amp never even came close to running out of steam.
