It's just one of the many reasons why there are 3 - count 'em, 3 - Ricks in my house - and not a single, solitary JB-shaped object. And, one of the many reasons why there never will be, either. Besides the Ricks, I have several other basses that can do the whole "2 single-coil" thing. And, do it better than a Jazz Bass ever did...
I still have a Jazz Bass because mine is the first bass I ever owned and I will get rid of it. But I made it my piccolo bass and the Jazz pickups are incredible for that purpose. There aren't many YouTube videos that cover piccolo basses let alone Jazz Basses that were converted to piccolo basses.
Really surprised to see Scott has so many detractors here. I"m not a member of his school but he leaves so much informative material on line for free that he's probably helped everybody's technique one way or another. His business model is aggressive but the net isn't for the faint hearted. Wish he'd been around when I was first learning.
I have to assume that none of the people getting so bent out of shape about these videos watched either of them (either the one about the Jazz or the one about the Ric), because the main focus of both is extolling the virtues of each bass. I think the click bait titles are meant to be sarcastic or tongue in cheek.
I watched the one about the Ric because they never posted anything about Rics before and I wanted to see what they had to say. I remembered that video after reading the first few posts on this thread and that led me to post it.

Thoughts in no particular order.
Scott Devine uses ironic clickbait messaging in his promotional material that I also found offputting at first. He does it all the time.
Once I got past that and watched a few of his videos, I found his demeanor to be quite engaging. He is an excellent player and from what I can tell, a good teacher.
I was uninterested in P-basses for 30 years until I started watching SBL videos. I like the way he sounds playing them so much that now I have one again and want a few more.
Not sure this is really Scott's point, but I do think the Jazz bass has the best tone profile of any of the typical bass configurations. They sound awesome.
Once I saw a downsized J body like the ones Sadowsky and Valenti use, I was a bit ruined for traditional J bodies. They are huge. I'm not a big guy and I wear the bass higher than some, and I think I might look funny with a full size Jazz bass. The downsized versions have better proportions.
I do have a wiring setup in my Jazz bass that uses the treble bleed mod. That bass sounds perfect with the tone rolled about 50% - 60%. I would never roll off the tone pot that much on any other bass. This just works.
Ian does look and sound too similar to Scott, though. It's just weird. He's also a good player.

It’s a good video. Scott and Ian are great players and the content is interesting. I like all things jazz bass even though I don’t play one.

Ironic in the sense that the actual content of the video is the opposite of what the snapshot suggests.
Like this one:
Given what the content of this video actually was, an unironic and accurate title might have been "things to consider as you learn to play 5 string bass." A few of those things were bad things that could happen if you aren't careful (like the B string resonating if you don't mute it), but on the whole it was not at all negative towards 5 strings like the snapshot implies.
I was a big fan, and I still think he's a great player and a good guy. I've just come to dislike the style of his vids with their clickbait thumbnails and more manic delivery.
In today's YouTube ya gotta do what ya gotta do ... "clickbait" titles are what work to grab the eyes and ears of viewers, and the algorithm demands constant output and views for anyone who wants to maintain a visible presence. I imagine Scott would say this himself, if asked.
Scott's content itself still tends to be pretty good, imo.
