So Scott and Ian made a video called "the most annoying bass ever made" covering my favorite model of bass for the first time in the history of Scott's channel. But what's funny is that it can do everything a Jazz Bass can but better. Therefore, the Jazz Bass can't possibly CRUSH everything.

I mostly play Jazz bass types. When my friend solo’d the bridge pickup and rolled back the tone knob one day, my eyes opened wide. I don’t use that tone setting often, but it’s fun.

It reminds me that one of my Jazz basses has a mismatched knob and it's on my to do list to see if I have a new one. I found my box of knobs for the Passinwind preamp, at least

I tried TI Jazz flats on the Jazz bass and decided I didn't want to do a bad clone of my Precision bass, which has the same strings. Tried a bunch of round wounds and settled (happily!) on TI Jazz Rounds. Really enjoying the tonal possibilities. It's not a Precision bass nor can it fill that sonic role. The Jazz bass is its own thing, and is excellent for use cases that do well with what the Jazz bass can offer.

On the neck pickup a J similar to a P to the extent I have old recordings that might be a P or J neck (it took me twenty years to use the bridge pickup) and I can tell which is which now solo let alone in a mix

I tend to prefer Ian's content. Scott needs to swap from double espressos to chai.

There seems to be some presumption of the need to be in-your-face with YouTube but I'm not sure it's true. But clearly Scott is and has always been very passionate.

Call me naive, I just enjoyed a nice video where people can learn the variety of tones there are in their Jazzes, and how to get them out. Even tho' I thank they discussed Geddy (and gave due credit as a JB icon), I wished they elaborated more on other rock/punk/metal bass players' Jazz Bass tones.

Something with a humbucker you can switch to four poles in a line or staggered?

This reminds me of some Magnabass pickups in some 80s basses which could operate as a humbucker with series/parallel switching but only have poles put in for a P shape.
