Professionally made, informative and entertaining. What‘s not to like?
Well I just bought a Jazz bass a few months ago and those guys didn't address any of the other tones I like. Too much focus on honky Jaco and slapping. I've tried a bunch of different strings, fingers, picks, etc. It's a versatile weapon and I've actually set my Precision bass aside for a new original I'm collaborating on. The Jazz bass with pick is definitely the right sound. But none of those whimpy settings in the video. They could have conveyed the information in one minute without all the hokey BS.
Funny thing about a Jazz, and you mentioned it, the pick. I've been working on original stuff in a full band setting and a pick is a must. And grit is even more important. We're a 3 piece. I have some holes to fill up. And a Jazz with new rounds, worn out rounds, or a new set of half rounds, and a pick, will get you there. Can't speak for flats, not a on a Jazz anyway.
I tried TI Jazz flats on the Jazz bass and decided I didn't want to do a bad clone of my Precision bass, which has the same strings. Tried a bunch of round wounds and settled (happily!) on TI Jazz Rounds. Really enjoying the tonal possibilities. It's not a Precision bass nor can it fill that sonic role. The Jazz bass is its own thing, and is excellent for use cases that do well with what the Jazz bass can offer.

The jazz neck at 1.5 is fast and this axe weighs 7.2lbs with Paulonia wood body. Nice and light, easy to play.
I've always preferred Pbasses, but this bass is no slouch !
