Why try to sleep in when it's impossible?

Since the early 80s I've had jobs that require early rising (5AM) (landscaping, construction for about 12 years). That pretty much set my body's schedule. For the last nearly 20 years, I've had an office job that thankfully allows for flexible work hours. I still get up at 5AM every morning to make my commuter train to get to work by 6:45. At this point in my life, it's more about keeping my commute as comfortable as possible (even 15 minutes later, the trains fills up, or if driving in, the traffic is much worse) and I do like getting home at a decent hour (4PM when using the train).

Sometimes I'm awake even earlier, but rather than waste my time trying to get back to sleep at 4AM, I put the time to use by getting some headphone practice in. I really like practicing earlier in the day when I'm not all fried from the BS of being a working stiff.

Alas, I am old enough to understand "pee thirty" and my body wakes me up regardless of what time I got to bed. Bar gigs are pretty rough on this old man from this perspective - getting home at 3AM will SOMETIMES grant me a sleep in until about 8AM and Sundays are always on auto pilot because I am just fried.
