Wich song you first learned?

I think it was "Durango 95" by The Ramones, but it could also have been either U2's "New Year's Day" or "Message In a Bottle" by The Police.

my first song learnt on bass was "Smoke On The Water", problably the easiest song to learn for beginners.

then followed Zebra- John Butler Trio etc... LOL

I'm pretty sure my first song was "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metallica. That and Cliff's bass solo (Anesthesia) were my first 2 songs, I don't remember which came first.


BTW--When I say Anesthesia was one of my first songs, I'm talking about the slower part, before the drums come in. I couldn't play the faster part until a few months after that.

Having just started playing just shy of a year ago I've learned the same song. Anesthesia is just about the sickest solo IMO ever. The first 'whole' song was the Star Spangled Banner for me. But Anesthesia is my first hard song.

Man, you guys make me feel old....mine was "Pipeline" by the Chantays (or Ventures) . Learned all parts (bass, rhythm, lead) back about 1963 (I was 13).

My first song was Day Tripper by The Beatles. Fairly easy considering you can play it much slower and it still sounds good. It's an easy song but the composing is great and theres little slides here and there which really helped later on when I learnt led zep songs like bring it on home or rumble on which are full of long rapid slides.

First one I played live with a band? "Listen To Her Heart", Tom Petty. Did the second vocal part as well. Total playing time, 12 days. I was a keyboard player in that band, but my half-brother let me play bass on a couplathree songs a nite. It was in 1984.

Mine one was of those, "We need a bass player, hey you can play guitar right? Why don't play the bass on this song!". I said cool, and I was sold from then on. It was in our high school "jazz" choir. I forgot the name of the song now, it was a really simple 4 note bass line, but I loved it. I convinced my dad to buy me a bass for my birthday that year!
