wide bass straps

I went to a shoemaker 15 years ago and had a beautiful wide strap made from leather. It will last my whole lifetime and looks and feels great. They usually have a lot of cool colors to chose from or mix together and do some killer looking top stitching. Try your local cobbler.

I have a Levy's leather strap that I ordered from Musician's Friend. It's 4 or 4 1/2" wide and holds my 10 pound Stingray 5 very comfortably.

I also have a ComfortStrapp that I originally bought for the SR5 but it didn't seem to work very well for me for some reason. I'm using it on my P5 and it feels fine. Go figure.

the widest straps i've found are http://italiastraps.com/ they work for my 13lb custom singlecut sixer

I have a Black/Amber 4"-wide Long version of this strap and LOVE it! It spreads the weight of my Fender 5er beautifully and it will clearly outlive me. Italia straps aren't inexpensive, but they are $50 LESS than the version "offered" (sold out) in the TalkBass shop. THROUGH WEDNESDAY ONLY, Italia is offering a killer 2-for-1 deal!

I also have a black, 4"-wide leather Levy strap that is very comfortable. It's more pliable than the Italia, however, so it doesn't seem to distribute the weight quite as well.

Good luck.

Im using the 4 1/2 padded levys strap, Its nice dont get me wrong, but very stiff.

I used to have a yamahaa air cell strap, which i LOVED, but unfortuatly my old drummer stole it a long with about 200$ worth of cables. I belive its also been discontinued.

Mine was really stiff, too, so I kind of mangled it to loosen it up. It's still somewhat stiff but it's a lot better than when it was new.

You had to mention the Buy One Get One Free Sale. Just ordered one (make that 2)! :D

Another vote for Italia straps. Ive had mine for a few years now.Had to cut a few notches as it was a bit long for my liking. As mentioned good weight distribution but still prob. will feel a 11lb bass :)

+1. I have two of these. One with straplocks and one without. Covers all my basses. Very nice straps. Fast delivery when I ordered mine too.

Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but i figure i'll post anyway since this is what I bought AFTER I realized i didn't care for the super-wide padded leather or suede straps as much. Souldier straps are more along the lines of vintage "hootenany" type pattern straps, seat belt material for the strap itself with leather or vinyl end tabs, with a pattern of your choosing on the outside (and they have a million to choose from).

I have a padded suede strap that's pretty decent (Franklin Straps) that I used for my 12-13lb T-40s, but i find i prefer the unpadded nylon of the Souldier straps even with the heavy bass. Just feels easier to move around somehow. YMMV, but i like em.
