Since you'll already be wearing a yellow raincoat and stacking KFC containers on your amp, no one will know why they're laughing...;)

I don't think the double-strap would be a visual problem, and for cripe's sake, you don't want to have to stop playing music because of health issues. If you're self-conscious about it, you could also camouflage it; put a lot of shiny bling down the left-shoulder side of it and wear a shirt that's the same color (black?) as the base material of the strap, and no one will even notice you're using a two-shoulder strap anyway.

I wish my bass weighed less, but I don't think it's heavy as basses go. It's just a Warwick Rockbass Classic. It weighs the same as my Ibanez. I think some Warwicks are pretty heavy, but mine isn't.

Since the two-shoulder straps are only $20 I'll try that first. Maybe I need to strap it around my waist and spin it around like ZZ Top?

I've considered renting a midget to hold it for me, but I think midgets are expensive.

If all else fails I'll play sitting down, but my friends are rockers and they like to jump around the stage. I'd probably feel weird sitting down. Fortunately (?) the lead singer left and we haven't found a replacement so I have time to find a solution! (The lead vocalist was a jerk, so I'm glad he's gone!)

They're not even going to really notice and will take their cues more from your stage presence than the strap you're using. Wear it with confidence and soon you'll have audience members coming up and asking where they can get one.

You could do like Steve Albini does with his guitar. He just wraps the strap around his waist like 5 times and it stays right there.

This is true of all clothes. You can wear what you want, if you wear it with confidence and conviction, you'll wear it well and it will look a lot better.

That's weird. Wouldn't it just yank your pants to the floor? Simply wrapping something around your waist may not be enough, which is where suspenders come from. :p

Plus, this would put a lot of strain on your lower back. And you'd have to be perfectly OK with your instrument hanging down around your knees, at sub-Jimmy Page levels. That, in and of itself, is disagreeable for some.

EDIT: Oh, wait... now I'm seeing that it's also outside his t-shirt. Ha ha ha... what the heck? Steve Albini is the world's least fashionable human being.

Well, sitting on a normal chair would indeed look weird - that's why you need one of these: Arteso - thrones - Medieval Furniture - Middle Ages :hyper: - see? If you wanna rule on stage, you need a throne :bassist:

The real trick is convincing your bandmates to carry that beast for you ;) Otherwise...

re: Sitting: Worked for Robert Fripp. Although developing some of his other quirks would probably qualify you as a bit odd. :)

Try the double strap and/or lighter bass. As someone else pointed out, when you become a star, millions on the internet will want one, and the prices will skyrocket.

... and inevitably, someone on TB will say "Jaco only needed a single strap." :)

Doc or PT?

If the latter, take the bass and strap (and other strap options) and get him to take the time to help you find a good fit, good posture on a stool, etc.

If the former, get a referral.
