Will People Laugh At Me On Stage?

pull off what marcus geard from the slackers does....

I love the slackers and have actually played a few shows in my old ska band the same exact way he does. No one said anything about it.

I can tell from personal experience that sitting won't solve the problem, in time it will only shift the pain from your shoulder to your leg - a heavy bass is...a heavy bass.

A wider strap helps. I've never tried one of those 2-houlders straps, but if they work, why would you care about what the crowd thinks? You're the one dealing with all that pain and the medical bills...IMO it's not worth ruining your health for the sake of a cool look.

Why not make it 'your thing'? You might get asked to do something later on and be referred to by somebody as 'the bass player with the double shoulder strap'.

I highly doubt anybody would laugh at you for wearing such a strap, unless you playing in a post-hardcore or pop-punk band where everybdy else is spinning their guitars and hurling themselves about. If this is the case, then I think I know why your back is damaged :hiding:

Yeah, anything that makes you weird is part of your identity. You might as well embrace it. A lot of people deliberately go out of their way to create idiosyncratic fashion statements so it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Nobody cares about what bass we play, how it sounds, how we hold it, whether its the best bass for metal, that it cost $11,OOO, or that you've hand filed the roundwounds into flats. Maybe half will notice you're playing bass...maybe.

However, people DO notice:

1. those funny neon strings.

2. your shoes. Gotta have good shoes.

3. if you're hot. "wow that guitar player with the green strings is hot."

4. your hat.

5. the lead singer. "wow! I like the singer's hat and shoes."
