Will this kill my gas

OK, been thinking about doing something I never thought I would.

I'm going to buy a Line 6 Bass Pod XT Pro and a Line 6 M13

My reasons are, my band stuff is set in stone it's not going to change the pedal board has been pretty much the same for 2 years (Only ever move stuff and tidy it up)

But for all the other stuff I do and want to do, covers, jamming at home, solo playing with loopers, experimental dnb, noise etc etc I just keep buying and selling stuff and even when I had my huge board with all the parallel processing it didn't do everything I wanted such as beat sync and tap tempo fx.

Most of the time I used the parallel aspect to have a clean blend because no matter what I did I couldn't tweak and play.

The M13 would solve alot of this I'd have 2 expr pedals, I could use midi controllers at waist height it has a fantastic looper so I see it covering my experimental sounds.

It's got enough fx that I would stop buying cheap ones to tide me over such as chorus and flanger that I only use once in a while as they soon add up in cost.

I can even set it up to do like a clean blend and control it to a degree.

The Bass pod has come about from my home practice setup, I run a Summit Td-100 into a Behringer mixer (obviously here I'm losing all that TD-100 goodness) so that I can hook it up with my mp3 player. For recording I'm doing the TD-100 into a firewire 410.

I just saw the bass pod as a way to get rid of these 3 items, plus rack tuner I have and have an all in one that did more. It would also maximise the M13 a bit more with the i/o, fx loops and the fact the pod can run comps saving a bank on the m13

If all the theory behind this sounds sound :D then let me know, or if I'm crazy also let me know. I was eventually hoping to then have all this as IEM setup.

But on top of this I'll still be keeping the following fx

2 x CPD
2 x Boomstick Bottom Feeder
2 x Bass Fuzzsaw
2 x Noisebox
Prometheus
Echobox
Strobo Stomp
Hellbaby
Serrano

and I'll still have 4 tube amps ranging from 17w to 500w

You know as well as anyone that this won't kill your GAS. It might keep you playing with the orders of effects for a while and delay the GAS for some time, and may help curb the impulse buy, but GAS will return......it always returns....:bawl:

delay it will do :D

That was actually one of the things I loved about the M13 over my huge old pedalboard was I can move fx around which has always been a down side in multi's and singles and having multiples of the same type of fx has been fixed by the M13 just imagine looping 4 verbs set to Octo :D

Personally I feel the effects are hte weakness of the Pod's, XT, X3, etc. The Modeling is great IMHO once the settings are tweaked, but you're looking at an M13 for effects.

At this point, unless just saving $$$ I'd probably go with an X3 over an XT just for the improved unit. I loved my X3 live while I had it, but was grossly under using it's abilities for the band I was doing at the time.

See I was very tempted by the X3 but very rare s/h here and the new price of one is like 3 times that of a s/h XT.

TBH I really want to limit the pod just just amp modelling get one really decent one made for my band, it's more all the I/O on it that makes it so useful. The whole thing is more for home practice and recording, that can be used at gigs but it won't be my go to gig rig, I already have 3 of those :p

I debate this all the time. GAS never goes away, but it would be nice to get soemthing you could "live with" or "settle for" and be done. I GAS, but I know I have what I NEED and try to keep reminding myself of the fact that no one is complaining about my sound at all - just me.

I've had a few Pods, and I tried the X3 for a while at home and the store - didn't buy it - yet. I had a great tone with the Aguilar model and the Big Muff - sounded fantastic. Even brought people to the room to check it out. While the effects are the weak point - any modeled/digital effect will be when A/B'd with a real analog pedal that costs almost as much or more than a Pod - I think for many people they are "good enough" and will do just fine.

I have a bass I don't use any more and am very tempted to trade it on a Pod X3. I wish it was a little more "bass friendly" as far as layout and knobs, but once set, it sounds very nice - IMO.

I wish that Line 6 paid more attention to bass players. I get th e"all-in-one" X3, but there are some things I prefer about the Bass Pod XT. I wish they woul dkeep and support it. I am still more tempted by the Bass Pod - even though we can exxpect no support for it.

I also tried the M13. Except for the filters - which never sound as good as the "real" thing - I thought the effects were very usable. I am not a big effects user, so it's way overkill for me.

IMHO, if you're one who relies on new purchases for inspiration, then the only cure for the G.A.S. would be formal lessons from a qualified instructor who can challenge you to be a better player and not a better consumer.

I doubt TaySte uses pedals purely for inspiration, just for texture. I certainly have never been inspired to write something around an effect, but some things i have written sound much better with a certain effect or a combination of them.

TaySte has also expressed a wish to experiment in genre's where the bass is not neccesarily created on a bass guitar. Like Drum&Bass. Sure you can play it clean, but is sounds alot more authentic with the right fx.

Oh yeah - the M13 probably wont kill your gas. Because if you're like me, your lust for FX may not be just about sounds. Its about visuals and 'the real thing'

I think you'll get bored of looking at the same box everyday. I'm hoping that sonically it'll do everything you want, but its got no soul (visually). You'll miss having the actual thing at your feet.

Although once you've had your fun with the M13, you'll have a better idea of which way you wanna go with FX (if anywhere)

Not purposely.
I don't know you, but for years when I felt uninspired as a player the G.A.S. would start to rage. The only way I made it go away was to sign up for lessons.

The question was, will this piece of gear "kill my GAS"
I think it's doubtful but.. then I again we've never met.

How ever I have had lesson's with Steve Lawson (one of the best players out today IMHO) and I walked out of it needing $1500 worth of looper :p

You do make a valid point, but I'm not looking for inspiration, it's very hard to loop and play solo compositions without a looper, also multi's do make cover bands a lot easier.

Nah I'm really just at sounds now, stuff might make me take interest like the Geiger Counter but the sounds didn't do it for me like the looks did.

TBH I have very little GAS for drive and synth pedals it's more that I have justification to buy mod and delay pedals for the odd occasion.

Would just be nice to always have that stuff lying around

Well, I think you should define what would be "GAS settling" to you and then go from there. Frustration is when your expectation don't match up with reality; so, it's important you understand what those are first. Seems like you're setting yourself up to be surprised by the Line 6 board. It may surprise and inspire you.

1. Let's see, we know you're okay with using a big board, so you can fit what you need. Check.
2. M13 has a universal tap. Check.
3. Has some pretty capable filtering, especially when combined with an expression pedal.
4. Eddie Breckenridge now uses an M13. Me loves hims tones.
5. Latch, loop, events, etc., etc.
