Consolidation isn't exactly a new trend. Gibson purchased Steinberger and Tobias in the 90s, and Fender bought Guild, Gretsch and Jackson around the same time. But if the rumors are right, you might not see any Gibson branded basses soon.

Let's just hope its Fender that buys everone up.
They have done great things with Gretsch, Guild and Jackson, while Gibson has taken Steinberger and Tobias - 2 once great brands - and driven them right into the ground.

Fender has killed some companies too. Shut down Tacoma, Hamer and SWR. Three once great brands, although SWR has never been to my taste.
Oh, Fender killed Ovation USA too. And Fender no longer owns Guild. They also killed Sunn, and Genz Benz. Everyone acts like it's just Gibson who is guilty of this.

I have a Gibson Era Toby Pro4, and I love it. I'm not saying it equals a real Tobias... but for $250, I feel I ripped the guy offYou are correct Sir.
