When I was about 16 or so I started to go see every old blues guy that I could in concert. In '90 I was lucky enough to meet Willie and get his autograph. He was a large fella, and was super nice.

I'm absolutely positive he influenced quite a few musicians who then influenced a lot of musicians who in turn
influenced me. Once I started listening to Willie, my first thought was; Oh, that's where that comes from.

Willie set the bar for who a bassist ought to be, not just supporting the band on stage but supporting the music as a whole, writing epic hits and spotting talent to play them, if he wasn't doing it himself.

A patron saint of the low end if ever there was one.

Yes, I agree that he was the most iconic blues double bass player ever, with some iconic blues songs to his name such as 'Spoonful', 'I Can't Quit You Baby', 'Little Red Rooster' and 'Ain't Superstitious' to name a few.
Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry were a few stars he worked with too.
Amazing man.
