thats who he was playing with when I first saw him. I dig him with Vince, his lines are really laid back compared to the work he did with Donny Hathaway though. But then again, its a totally differerent Genre.

What kind of setup was he using on the CMAs

I dont have the cd, i went and downloaded quite a few of the tunes off of it though.

He was using an eden 2x10 combo when I saw him with Vince Gill and a Lakland at least Im pretty sure it was a Lakland.

He had a nice, fat, warm, tone when I saw him.

Couple more Weeks' albums I enjoyed-

His stint with Buzz Feiten & Neil Larsen in their '80s reincarnation of Full Moon.
BTW, if you ever see Full Moon's FIRST album(released in '70 or '71?)...GRAB IT!

I do like Weeks on the Doobies' One Step Closer album.

I think that's Weeks on Bowie's "Fame"...too lazy to go back & look; has that been mentioned already?

One can also catch Weeks on Wynonna's video to "No One Else On Earth"...CMT drags that one out every so often.

Check out Joe Walsh's live "You Can't Argue With
a Sick Mind" album (from '76, right after he joined
the Eagles). Willie lays down some serious grooves
on "Rocky Mountain Way" and others.

Also, I've got a Star Licks video from about 10
years ago where Verdine White (EW&F) talks about
seeing Weeks in a club with Hathaway and being
blown away, influenced, etc. THAT got my attention!

I've got to get "Donnie Hathaway Live" - I've been
putting it off for too long!

He was recently on the Late Show with David Letterman too. They had him stuck way off to the back by Will Lee I think. What a treat that night was though, 2 of the greats, Will Lee and Willie Weeks on the same stage jammin with each other. (even if it was only to a Vince Gill song.)

Not to derail the thread...
I recall a very young bass prodigy with Chuck Mangione in the early to mid 70's. It wasnt Willie, but his last name sounded like Weeks. Anybody recall that youngster (now middle agester)?
Another bassist just killin' from the mid 70's (and still killin' today)...Anthony Jackson. Check out Dave Valentin's work from the mid 70's. It may have been his first solo album. Steve Gadd, Anthony...a whole lotta 'day-um' goin' on there during a few cuts.

Hey y'all,

How do! Willy also plays on the tune "Soulshine" with Government Mule on "The Deep End, Volume I." He also is featured a bit on the opening sequence of the DVD of the same name.

He is shown playing Soulshine with a slightly crusty Fender P that sounds warm and fat.
