Double Bass Wilson and GK MB150S

Does anyone out there have any exsperience with Wilson pickup on a GK 150 S combo?

One of my basses is equipped with a wilson pu. It works as one could expect with the GK 150. Nothing unusual there. But as with any pu, things gets easier with a preamp that matches the impedance. ...And, the GK is not the best amp for double bass...

What kind of amp would you recomand for my DB. It`s a Christopher 603 F fully carved 7/8, with both The Realist and Wilson pickup. The realist gave a good sound on a 3/4 Hofner hybride but sounds awfull on my Chrissy. In my oppinion the Wilson suits my Chrissy much better than The Realist. What kind of preamp would you recomand for the GK, or what other kind of amp you might recomand.

All you need with the Wilson, is a 10 meg ohm impedance
preamp. The cheapest Fishman would be fine. The Wilson
is a good match with the GK 150. The Wilson sometimes
likes to be warmed up a bit. The GK is warm and punchy.
I use a Sansamp Acoustic DI into the effects return of
the GK and bypass the GK preamp.

I have a Behringer bass BDI21 DI box, but don`t know how many ohm in it. I think the sound is better without this box. I`ll try to find an 10 ohm box.

Will a Fishman G-II preamp do the job?

I don't like the GK either. I used to bring it to a gig because it was so portable, but when I started playing I would kick myself for being lazy and not bringing something that would actually make me sound good. The only way to solve the problem was to sell it. It's too bad there aren't lightweight affordable combo amps availabe that are appropriate for DB.

Will a Fishman G-II preamp do the job?

The G-II will do the job. The B-II would be eq'd for bass,
but all you really need it for is the impedance matching.
( 10 meg ohm )

If you get the Fishman pro platinum bass eq, you could
use it as your preamp and by pass the GK preamp, but
the G-II will work just fine.

You don't bypass the pro platinum. The pro platinum is a
preamp. You can plug into the pro platinum, then go from
the pro platinum into the EFFECTS RETURN input on the
GK. If you use the G-II, just go from the G-II into the
regular input on the front of the amp.

The Behr ADI-21 has a 10 M input. The older GK is IMO much better with double bass. If you find one that is reliable is another question...

There is a lot of great amps designed with the double bass in mind. They tend to be quite expensive. The german made AER is great. A budget chioce is to get a good active full range PA speaker together with an external preamp. Strive for good amplification, and remember that bass needs a lot of power. For instance, I've used a 1000 W amp with one yamaha full range PA speaker and the adi-21 with good results.

I returned the GK, and bought a "Fishman pro platinium" I connect between the bass and the board. It give a disent sound with RCF art 500 active speekers, and I can supply with a active sub in big rooms.
