Same here!!! I don't watch television, I don't read the newspaper, and I definitely don't do the media website thing. In fact, I enjoy going out of my way to avoid doing what the mass population does. Talkbass is the only forum I participate in, and I don't consider TB a "social media" website. I consider TB to be a group of bassists talking about bass.

Scott Devine has been a long time member and HUGE contributor to the TB community. Not sure why he's using a new account. Unfortunately, I won't be entering the contest either, as I have no interest in becoming part of Facebook.

"Don't cut off your nose to spite your face," as the old saying goes, right?
However, I'll bet that the competition is actually Facebook-based itself, such you couldn't compete unless you already have an extensive network of "friends": e.g., getting all your friends to "like" something, and getting those friends to get their other friends to do the same, etc. -- and the winner is the one who ultimate generates the most "likes" -- something like that. I'm just guessing (I'm also a non-FB-user) but I've seen other promotions on the web that work along those lines. Of course, if that's the case there wouldn't be any point in joining FB just for the contest.
I'd be curious to know if I'm right: Can any FB users confirm or deny?

In MY opinion (as the new-minority, straight white intelligent male that I am), I feel FB and the rest are one-dimensional electronic stages to act upon and present yourself for the approval of others, moments at a time. For what justification or gratification? For what POINT worth a moment of time in this universe?! Am I looked down upon by the robotic masses of blurryvisioned (but not yet quite blind-leading-the-blind) followers for not needing the constant approval of others, or because I have zero desire to share all the worthless crap about me to impress people I've invited to be "friends" in the utmost superficial definition of the word?

Yes! Scott's been around here for years (as "devine"), and his free (!) video lessons are among the best on the internet.

I joined FB this winter because I wanted to play a contest and scored 2 gigs by connecting with some old friends.

Seems to be a regular draw, not a popularity contest. You have to give your email address, that's it. No FB app crap either. You do get a "bonus" entry in the draw if you share the contest page with your FB contacts.

Facebook makes it an ENORMOUS pain-in-the-butt to delete your profile.
I'm on Facebook, but I'd never try to convince anyone else to join. I completely understand why some don't want to go there. Facebook has exactly zero respect for anyone's privacy.
