When it comes to stuff I like, I definitely try!
(Definitely like this more than algebra.)
With the clock ticking, I got the body done.
- The wiring was screwed up somewhere, so I simplified it and removed the global S/P switch. It now has a tone bypass instead.
- Knobs, made by Kilo International (same company as Sadowsky, but a different design on these).
- Pickups drilled and foamed and secured.
- Dunlop Straplocks
And I hit the neck up with a finish. Wow, does it pop! The chatoyance is fantastic, it needs to be seen in person. I may have to see just how glossy I can get it.
It may be kinda chunky, but it's an easy fix after the deadline.
Tomorrow is fretwork day!
Oh, and is the deadline 11:59 pm on Monday?

I was up until 2am working on this. I still didn't finish, but I have 12 hours to go, so that's good.
All I have left is the string retainer nut, string tree, and string it up for playing. As soon as the wife leaves, I'm back at it!

This is my submission for the Winter 2017 Build off:
PROJECT 2
(Couldn't think of a better name and this one grew on me)
I really enjoyed the theme of challenging oneself to new things. This bass embodies a lot of new tasks for me:
- 5 String
- 33.5" scale
- Multi-wood body
- Multi-wood neck
- Sapele, Rosewood, and Walnut are woods I'd never used
- Headstock
- Chambered body
- Resawing my own tops
- Nickel shield paint
- Neo magnet control cover plate attachment, wood cover plate
- Working with a deadline!
Specs:
Flamed maple bookmatched top and back, Sapele core, chambered
Flamed maple/walnut 7 piece neck, graphite supports and 2 way truss
TruOil finish everywhere
Nordstrand BigRig pickups, each with series/parallel
Nordstrand 2 band EQ, with bypass, passive tone, and tone bypass
Hipshot A Bridge, brass
Hipshot tuners and string tree
Stainless frets, Tusq "nut" and 0 fret
Dunlop straplocks
Kilo International aluminum knobs
9 lbs, 11 oz

Sound sample attached as well. I tried to get a mix of all of the possible settings. There are certainly a lot of tonal options with it! But basically, if it's louder and thicker, it's in series.
I'm excited to try this at practice with the full band at full volume on Thursday.

And to all of the others who are participating, watching your work gave me so much to shoot for, so thank you guys for lighting all kinds of fires under me. All of you have really inspired me to up my game and watching this competition materialize has been a true joy.

The more look at this bass, the more I like how you left the headstock without a veneer. The stripes of the wood going through it look cool, especially contrasted with the sapele bottom.
