Completed the strap lock support rout and rod, and epoxied it in to the upper body wing.

Next steps, finish routing the lower body wing, then I can glue the tops on, and work on the "F" holes.

Pulled the wing out of the clamps.

Trimmed a bit on the band saw, and attached the template.

The cut off from the top can still make a pretty nice book matched set for the headstock. I may use that. I also tested the Delano pickup on one of the 5 string basses with the same string spacing as this one will be. I had my husband hold the pickup while I played. Pretty even response across the strings, including the "A" string, which was my major concern. I'm going to plan on using it for this build. I also bought the acrylic template, which I'll transfer over to a wood template for durability.

I also glued up the other wing last night. The epoxy was cured enough that I felt comfortable removing enough clamps to use on the other wing. I'll let that cure a bit more and start setting that one up. I still need to set up the fretboard fret cutter and start on that. I have that nice piece of bird's eye maple that needs to be trimmed to size. Then I can cut the fret slots and move forward with the neck.

I have a short scale bass with a Quarter Pounder wide Jazz pickup in it, the poles don't line up to the strings. On this pickup there are two poles for each string. While it looks wonky I can't hear any appreciable difference in tone or volume between strings that are directly over the poles and those that are slightly off. I suspect the magnetic field is a lot bigger and more complex than just right in front of/over the poles. It's large enough that proximity is not super important - my opinion based upon this one example.

Still sanding the body wings. More than the previous versions, it seems on this one, the wings came out a little further apart in the shape, requiring more sanding. Finished the "F" hole template, and set up the fret slot jig. I'm working on several different projects at once right now. Funny thing, since I've retired, I'm busier than ever. My hubby took today off, so I think I'll take a break from everything and go out for a nice Valentine's day shopping trip and dinner. My hands are all tore up from all the projects, so a break will give them some time to heal. Since I nicked the tip of my middle finger/left hand, I can't even play.

Careful with those hands.....No point building basses if you can't enjoy playing them....

This was a little disappointing. I cut a hole in a piece of maple from the Delano pickup template, and it's just too small for the pickup to fit into.

I could sand it out a bit, or just wrap the pickup in tape, and do that template making process with the bondo. Why did I spent $12.00 on a factory template again?

Grrrrr.

Think I should take it up with Best Bass Gear? I bought it from them.
