Serious bummer... think there's a possibility you could bind the board to gain a little width?

Thanks all for your thoughts.

I've cut the FB to where it fit the neck. Unfortunately the gouge is pretty deep. I could make use of this neck, but I think I woould have to bring the nut width down to 1.42. Thats a little on the thin side.
I have some ideas. Need to find the right piece of wood. If anybody has some Padauk with some wane in it, please contact me. Needs to be at least 23" long.

Yes,

The wane for Padauk is a creamy white, very close to the white of the maple I have. Getting a piece with wane would make for an interesting bookmatched FB.

Update

Ordered some padauk. Asked the guy to include a piece with wane. He said if he has it, he'll ship it.
Not much is going to get done on this until I get the FB on.

Definitely enough for a Uke. It's just short of 13 inches

Couldn't quite find the piece that I wanted, but I did find something that had a little character.

I'm a little concerned that the FB is a little overpowering right now, but when everything gets oiled up, this will look completely differnt

Never heard of anybody doing a bookmatched fingerboard before, but I can think of no good reason why it shouldn’t work just fine. Neat-o!
