Winter Build Off 2018 - Walnut Free For All

Here's how I am going about calculating my percentages

This is the easy part (all measurements are before roundovers and bevels)
Body is made of 2 parts the wings and the backbone
Wings
Thickness = 1.50"
Walnut Thickness = .9 0r @60%
Total volume of wings = @133.5 cubic inches
Volume of walnut = 133.5 X 60% = @80 cubic inches
Backbone
Total Thickness - 4.0
Walnut Thickness - 2.92 or 73%
Total volume of backbone = @109 cubic inches
Volume of walnut = 109 X 73% = @79 cubic inches

Total volume = @242 cubic inches
Total volume of walnut = 159 cubic inches = @66%

I figure my round overs and bevels will take away a little bit so I'll be sitting at 65%

Keep in mind that these numbers are not exact, but what I feel to be close enough for this contest

I was kind of guessing that the nature of the initial number was a way to quantify that the instrument construction should be mainly walnut.But out of curiosity, I started doing the math, essentially in my estimation of whether I could "afford" to do a non-walnut fingerboard. And the numbers started getting confusing, so I just wanted to ask.

Pre-cutting and shaping, my wood piles stacked up to 90% on the neck blank, 82% on the wings, before cutting or taking a third dimension into account, as well as figuring out how much the "tone block" played into either, as it's both part of the neck and body.
And then I thought about the chambering and blood started to pour from my ears... so I stopped and had a beer.

But yeah, I'm loving what people are doing and look forward to all of the builds coming to fruition. Keep up that great work!

OK then, officially in. I cannot build to the level of some of you so I'm just doing it for fun.
Still have no idea if I'm doing fretted or not, I don't have a fretless ... but then again I'm not sure I could play one anyway.

So it's the pile, plus a 1/4" maple top, I do believe I'm well within the 65% requirement!
