Winter Build Off 2018 - Walnut Free For All

I'm not entering the 2018 Walnut Challenge competition, but I've actually just gotten started on a batch of three all-walnut AMB-2 Scroll Basses. I plan to have these three done by the end of February, and I'll be starting the next two or three some time in early February. I've got a steady backlog of orders for the walnut models, and that's pretty much all I'm going to be building through 2018. Steady production of walnut AMB-2's, plus completion of several prototypes of new models, also in walnut. This is the Year Of The Walnut.

Even if you`re not competing, you can still show us some of the walnut basses in-progress! :)

I'll bite
Don't know what it's going to be quite yet, but this will be much simpler than a sammie. I'm looking for the right piece of walnut for the FB. The neck is roasted black walnut.

Much to @charlie monroe 's displeasure, I won't be carving an instrument out of the large piece. 2 big reasons. First and foremost, my design director is telling me to make a coffee table out of it. I feel if I do something with it at this time, the home front would not be as serene as I would like. Secondly, it would take some planning, which I don't think I have time to plan and execute by contest deadline.

Cheers

Will you at least make it a bass-shaped coffee table? A vintage slab p bass body would be a cool coffee table shape! :D

Okay, here is a placeholder of the wood I have so far. I forgot about the Whackdoodle sign so when I find more wood I'll post a updated woodpile pic with the sign.

I say 'when I find more' because I try very hard to only work with reclaimed hardwood, and this is what I've scared up so far. I see a neck there. Not sure about %s, I may fail unless I find more walnut. At least I THINK that's walnut, and I have no idea what the lighter stuff is, except possibly maple. I'ts not oak.

also, so far I have only RE-built guitars, basses, and one banjo, for Girls Rock NC as their "gear person." Oh, and one teeny 6 string electric for my favorite not-niece, which I built off of a broken First Act neck with an all-new body and hardware. So this will be my first scratch build, and it's gonna be weird. I think of it as "The Damned Thing."

Do pieces out of my scrap pile count as recycling?

Let me know what sizes you are looking for
