Winter Build Off 2018 - Walnut Free For All

Here's a pic with the required text. I found another piece, so now I have enough and I'm pondering how to glue up the body so it will look the least hideous.

I'm in the same boat here. Capital is starting to free up more now, but now I have practically no time... there's still time left, but I don't think I'll have enough. I doubt I'll barely get my first entry off the ground. Too much work on the home front. :(

Tell me about it.

Last weekend was the weekend from hell for me, and this weekend I'll be building computers, NOT basses!

BTW, the puter I spec'd out is really sweet. Should last for a good long time. The computer that blew up on the wife I built 11 years ago.

11 years on a PC is dang good. I think I'm on year 7 for mine. Still running great, just need a new video card, old one had the fan blow up. Turns out buying a new card is only $15 more than a replacement fan...

Re: March 20 deadline.

I have no illusions about winning, however a couple of questions.

I should be done in a week or so, what do I need to do at the end of the build? Are we required to have physical possession of said instrument on March 20? In other words, if I sell it before that, does that disqualify me?
You'll be fine if you send it to me....
Any other action will result in disqualification and you'll be in sooo much trouble.....

There's a format for presentation that I'll ask people to abide by, that will ultimately be used when voting starts
Once you post your completion, we ask that you don't continue to "tweak" your instrument, and resubmit for voting.

I would suggest not posting your completed work until we are upon the build off deadline and moving into voting.

If you take a look at the link below, and the associated builders in the first post, you'll see the format.
Winter 2017 Bass Build off - Voting Final

Let me know if you have any other questions

So I really didn't answer all of your questions, but to answer the rest, no , you don't have to be in physical possession, just post pics of it's finished state.

Cheers

Make sure you take some good photos when it's done though...when you win, you'll be featured as a bass of the week...:D

There's definitely some really talented people on here. The fact that they are willing to teach other people and show their work is freakin' awesome. Personally, I wouldn't have even started building in the first place without the tutelage from those on this forum. TB rules! Thank you all.

Kind of a tangent, but I seriously expected someone to build a "Walnut Wal" tribute this year. I figured it would be the obvious idea, it just made so much sense. But honestly, did anyone else have that in their head when this started?

I did, yes, briefly. But the Ric is a prettier shape. The Wal bodies look a bit too bulbous to me.

I also seriously considered a Les Paul, a la “The Paul” walnut models from the 70s. I’ll still do a Les Paul at some point.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

:wideyed:  That's a great idea, can't believe it didn't even cross my mind.

Now I'm wondering... do I have enough time for a third entry? :D :bag:
