I started the assembly today afternoon. The poly had a chance to dry, probably will be curing for another few days or weeks. I have to say, I would be happy sticking to Tru oil all the way. The poly came out ok, too shiny though and I don't think it matches the instrument. Well too late for this one and I know it's all very subjective. Maybe I just got used to a lesser shine
As you see I managed to make the back cover. Assembling the pickups and electronics was very easy with the eng solderless system. Two issues I ran into were:
1. I routed the pickup cavities probably too deep. I had 7 mm of wood left and I drilled just 4mm deep for pickup screws. Iamaged not to run through the back, but I wonder how the adjustment will work
2. I had to deepen the route for the input jack some more, cause it wouldn't fit under the cover by 2mm. Currently it really is a thin piece of top under there.
After deepening the rout it was just there
I have to say, 32mm for a body is not a lot to work with. I feel I'm just a hair from drilling to the other side.
Finally I have everything put together and working
I'm tempted to put her all together and do a test drive

Let it cure, disassemble, hit with some steel wool or Scotchbrite (generically, "non-woven abrasive pad") and you want a fine one (gray or white for Scotchbrite - color may vary with other brands.) Sure, it will be after the deadline, but it's not something you have to accept as unchangeable. And I doubt anyone is going to judge based on the shiny/satin state of things.
I think your jack issue illustrates the reason most folks go to the side when doing thin bodies, unless they go for the "reverse strat jack plate." Have you tried it with a cable plugged in? If it needs any more, you might put a small recess in the back cover (yeah, not a lot of wood there either, but it's under less stress.)
If the pickup routes turn out to be too deep, presumably you could glue in more wood where the screws go.

The jack fits fine, it's actually shorter than the socket by 3mm I guess. And I totally like the socket being on the top plate. It doesn't affect sitting down with the guitar. Here is how it looks inside:
I would say 32mm body thickness is really the minimum of how thin you can go using standardized elements and mounting methods.
I will see how the pickups height works out and what it means, but gluing in some support is a possibility I consider.

Audere preamps come with these super thin pots, I don't have one right here to measure though. The preamp itself is the same size as a 9v battery (though very thin), I bet you could get pretty thin with that set up. I really like the way the Audere sounds, especially paired up with the Lace Alumnitones.
I just put her together with roundwounds, I'm no fretless player (yet) and can't keep the tone to pitch (yet again), but I thought you should hear it yourself, no matter how bad the player is. I'm sorry and good luck

Last touches - installed the strap locks today, otherwise under the term "giggable" it's ready for submission. I admit I have one thing left to do - install the magnets for the rear cavity, but I just don't have them at hand now. I could do screws, but it's not that easy for exchanging the battery.
It was not easy to drill through the poly already. That will be a tough coat.
