Winter Build off 2018 Walter Ardie

Lots of good suggestions. Thanks.
A moog circuit, interesting. I remember I wasn't that impressed with it in the day

The ACG isn’t a Moog circuit, it’s more along the lines of a Wal preamp. Very powerful and very flexible. I have one in Serendipity, and it’s amazing.

I was thinking something with switches, just because the original had them. But what pre-amps now nowadays come with those?

Another idea is that since the moog circuit was so out there and unique maybe try something in the same vein? Like a Low pass filter AND a high pass filter. Im just spitballing

Yes, have one of these. It may get used on this build

The ACG Todd talks about is filter style preamp.

If you leave out the compressor/expander, the Moog circuit isn't that out there; 3 FETs, the Bass /Treble is a basic Baxandall boost/cut circuit. The 'Lead EQ' switch is a mid-boost.

I've been moving away from active pups and preamps. But in keeping in the style of the Artist, I could go with a Nordstrand Bigman, and the ACG. I had this pup in a differnt bass, and I didn't like it. Maybe with this preamp tied to this pup?

You're going single pickup?

If I use the bigman, yes. But the Bigman is a quad coil if I understand it correctly, and I coould use the 2 filters from ACG for each of the separate pups inside the BM

I like the Bigman pickup quite a bit!

I didn't like the Bigman because it had too much bass response.

I'm thinking if I use the ACG, I could find some reasonable tones to use

I could see that. Mine is in an old parts bass, pretty far back toward the bridge, so if anything, it’s not quite bassy enough for my tastes. But I like a lot of bass in my bass :)

I've been thinking about the dual band compressor from BYOC pedals. It has a high and low volume, indipendant compressors and a variable crossover. I don't know if the board will fit inside a guitar but I think it could make a wicked tone circuit.
Looks like it's sized to fit in a 1590B enclosure, so it should be possible to stuff in an RD.

That's good to know because I had it in the standard Musicman Position.
I was thinking if I were to use it, it would go closer to the bridge

Update:

Did the neck pocket tonight, finished off the top a bit, and staged it for possible config. The Kickass is too big, and probably need to be chrome.

Cheers

I have never played either so I have no idea what they sound like.

I'm thinkin the Aluma bar maybe with a Babicz bridge......this is gonna kill me

Isnt he talking about the bridge though? If it is the bridge why not go mono rails? Cant get smaller than that
Yes, I would go just a single pup if I were to do the Bigman. Jury is still out.

In the meantime, here are some other decisions
1) TruOil finish - It really makes the chatoyance pop.
2) Malaysian Ebony finger board. Nice color match, and it's got a racing stripe!!!

Did you put a radius in the top or is that an illusion from the grain patterns?
