Got so busy I forgot to take pics until I was gluing in the top-strip:

Everything trimmed off, scraped and a wiped with a bit of naptha:

Still a few markings to sand off, but it's getting there

Might want to use some ink to pop the figure a bit. Also need to decide if I want to leave it natural or stain it (Stain it purple to mess with @postalflunkie? )

Thanks. Forgot to mention, the top strip is walnut maple and mahogany matching the back strip. Its not a bug, it's a feature

Time to work on the control cavity; the cover template fit into the routing template. I used the bondo trick for a tight fit.

Second only to the clamp farm pic in popularity, the cavity hog-out pic:

Right now it's just shy of the top. I plan to go a bit into the top, and reinforce with aluminum as @Bruce Johnson recommended to @Gilmourisgod.

Here's a variation on the using blue tape and superglue to temporarily secure templates without leaving carpet-tape residue: I put down blue painters tape then hot glue the template to the blue tape.

Cleaned up the inner routs:

I love walnut as much as anybody.

But I find contrasting wood cavity covers distracting, so I vote cherry.

The cherry is second from the top, quite a bit darker than the cherry in the body so still contrasting, imho..
