Winter Build Off 2020 - Get Ready

I've got a drawing done. I think I need to order some tuners, I have to check stock. I'm trying to dry out a piece of maple by my furnace, it's close right now, but realistically it probably won't be ready. It will probably be a bolt on, but I'm not 100% on that yet.

Lots up in the air, but I have a nice hazy IPA in hand right now, so all is good.

Those are pretty good prices. East Dundee is very similar to the prices I get. Crown Point is incredibly low

Now if you figure a bass body blank is @ 20" x 14" x 2" that comes to @3.88 bdft. An 8/4 mohagany body blank could be as low as 20

If these places are like the guy I get wood from, they'll S2S if for free if you buy the whole board.

Other places I've been won't sell cut off's and charge for S2S.

I'm about 90% sure I'm doing a bolt on, I'm not sure why but my brain says "bolt on" for an acoustic/electric. It's going to be a 34" scale 4 string with 21 fret positions. I think it will be fretless. I know fretless has less commercial appeal (not like I sell much), but that's what I play. I have a lot of amazing birdseye maple, I want to feature that wood in this build. I am unsure where to use it exactly (front, neck, fingerboard?). Still time to obsess before I start cutting I guess.

I think I'll plane down some of that birdseye today so I can see what's what, it's mostly rough cut at this point.

Not to dominate this thread with idle musing, but as I figure out wood for the build off, I realize my problem is I have too much to choose from, I need to narrow things down. My brain is not liking this.

I'm somewhat with @Jisch on this

I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do, but I have a few options.

For one build, it will be all Wenge, with the exception of the FB, which will probably be ebony. I had everything on hand except for the top, which I eventually found on line

For the other build, I wanted it to be all maple, but can't find the pieces I want to use. So I shifted to roasted ash, which I have on hand, but haven't worked with finishing/coloring roasted ash, so I'll side step that and go with Black Limba, So the second will black limba body and top, roasted maple neck, ziricote FB. Even still, I need to figure out how I'm going to cut the black limba. I have a couple differnt pieces, and I keep going back and forth

Never marry someone who has the same addictions as you do. My wife and I both have this compulsion to buy wood. I swear I was driving home from a bike ride just now and was within a mile or so of the wood place, I almost went! why? I have no idea.

At the end of today's bike ride I spotted some 9" diameter maple logs that were from a recently cut tree lying on the ground, I noticed them because they had a decent amount of splating showing on the ends. After we were done with the ride I rode back to the spot and picked up a few of them, they will make excellent bowls. See I did it again! argh! When I told my wife about it her first words were "did you get all of it?".

Probably 25% of the wood in my attic is stuff I've scrounged here and there (some of it was given to me, some of it I pulled out of the woods, cut and dried), 60% of it is stuff I bought from my "wood guy" - it was cheap, but also completely green, so I have to dry it, and the remainder I bought at the wood place or online.

I sat here and started to guess how much actual cash we've spent on wood, it's probably an exercise left undone.
