Winter Build Off 2020 - Leftovers and Locust

Give head piece a chance.

I'll eventually be smoothing all of this out, but it fits, it's tapped for set screws, all is well!

Been a busy week. I got the neck wiped down with Tru Oil and painted the head piece. The body was sprayed with clear and I ended up getting far enough to assemble it for a trial run:

An unintentional bonus? The EMG logo matches the body nicely.
It works and sounds pretty good. Definitely "mwah" city with the rounds and low action. I'm gonna need to fine tune some minor details, but this one may be pretty much wrapped up shortly.

It balances fantastically, it's quite light (8 lbs), and you can definitely move air through it.

Okay, I’m gonna admit, this thing had me scratching my head the whole time thinking that I wasn’t sure about this. But seriously, the finished product has this weirdness about it that I really dig. The way some of the shapes flow is amazing. I was pretty skeptical the entire way, but seeing it done, I’m sold. Well done man!

No cover, I find them annoying.

I do that with the control covers on my builds, it works so well. I just don’t find the need for covering the truss access, I like that to be readily available.

First: this is beautiful, your craftsmanship is nothing short of miraculous.

Second: I don't understand the Head, how does the block work and what does it do(beside holding the strings) and how does it accomplish that?

I have never paid any attention to headless basses, for me it's kinda weird but yours peeks my interest.

Here's a couple of shots of the headstock setup:

The strings pass through the headpiece and the locking block in a straight path. There are grub screws in the locking block that "guillotine pinch" the strings. Once they are properly tightened, the bridge pulls it into tune.

I had a couple other ideas that were more complex, but this was elegant enough and relatively easy.

It’s 18mm, actually. But the bridge is kind of adjustable.
