What was the plan for the finish? A tinted clear instead of dye can help even out the variations in the wood.

Winter Build-Off 2022: Bamboo EUB

Looks like the skeleton or silent guitar design is popular for EUB. I did some image searching and found some neat designs
The Marleaux Contra was obviously inspired by DB, but would look pretty cool if it were an EUB
It looks like halfway down the body, they changed their minds on how it should look.let's say, not a complete aesthetic success to my eyes.
I guess it's meant to be a reference to Busetto corners, but to me they don't look right on a full-sized bass either.
Lately I've been trying to keep the water out of my barn rather than making much progress on the bass. Things are slowly drying out and the humidity in my shop is down to a mere 85%. You may admire this handcrafted artisanal ditch.
I do admire! I can imagine how much hard work went into that.

Yeah, plus the raccoons, squirrels and birds have knocked out a good number of the soffit pieces to further enhance ventilation. It'll dry out if we ever get a few warm sunny days instead of this:

I was seriously considering making a box truss. It would be light, wouldn't take much material, and would look pretty cool. But it would be a huge aesthetic mismatch with the fairly traditional-looking neck. Plus I'd probably get my foot stuck in it on stage, and I prefer to be remembered for my musical mishaps instead.
Instead I'm leaning toward a slim hollow body similar to the Van Zalinge Z Bass. The best photos I can find are right here on TalkBass in this thread. This seems like a pretty good compromise between not being too big while still allowing a traditional(ish) bridge, tailpiece, and endpin. I'll add a sound port on the bass side, doubling as access to fasten the neck bolts.
Not sure if I want the back concave like that or not. On the one hand it helps keep the size down, on the other hand a little more internal volume would help make it louder for unplugged practicing. I'm also not crazy about the bolt-on faux upper bout, but something like that is probably necessary for stability. I think I'll try without it and see how it goes.

The faux upper bout is also for orientation. That is, if you play DB as well.
Ah, interesting. I'm a fairly lousy and thoroughly untrained DB player, so it's not surprising if I miss something. Do you mean orientation in the sense of positioning the bass against the player's body, or in the sense of landmarking where your hand is on the fingerboard?
