Okay, here we go! Winter Build Off 2022 - Renewal/Rebirth
I was all ready to go, and literally, at 3:59, our executive director calls me with a crisis.
I was like "seriously? can't this wait? There are people waiting to build a bass!"

Yeah, my boss came in freaking out because his Hawks-Rams stream won't let him watch it live. 
I don't have the heart to tell him that mine works fine. Mostly because I don't want him sitting in my office watching the game over my shoulder.

Well I didn't get my poop in a group soon enough. Or in this case my body wood. 6 weeks out. So if I enter I'll be late and my rebirth story will be me making it!
Joking aside, I am contemplating making a prototype body out of 2x6s just for the fun and experience of doing so. I've made a template just to go through the motions

I was gonna do clear walnut but I'm liking the tobacco burst on one piece swamp ash option...

Well, I was going to make a Warmoth parts P+MM bass and then this pops up in the classifieds....
I guess I will just own 3 P body shaped basses. Im gonna aim for a Jazz type neck with a flatter fretboard profile and put some roundwounds on it...

I go away for a couple of days, and there's like hundreds more posts to read over several new threads. I'll just have to sit back and vicariously enjoy the fun.

So, I was getting ready to post my entry in a partial build and measuring the Fender 51 P bass neck that I was going to use. It appears the width at the nut is narrower than the '56 style bass I wanted to come out of this project. Looking at a lot of pictures of '56 basses on the web, its clear that I have a very slightly different animal. What I also found was that string would bend at the nut to the machine heads of the G and E strings. They should be straight! Its very small, but there.
I'm considering building the neck the way it should be and entering as a scratch build. I'm on the fence because; 1. the neck was $299 and 2. if I build, it should be a one piece neck. That's a bit more engineering with a Fender style truss rod embedded. There's the skunk strip, drilling the headstock at a thin angle, and anchoring it, which I'm not entirely sure how Leo did it. A lot of fog to travel through here. Using the Fender neck may be the best chance of success.
Hoping to make a decision and get in the game in the next week. Enjoying the entries that a posted.
