Winter Build Off 2022 - Star-Crossed-Caster

As the saying goes, "you might as well get hung for a sheep as a lamb". So I'm entering a second build.

This one is a scratch build of the Fender Starcaster four string bass, using the a similar experimental body build method to my Toby-or-not-Toby build. The major differences are that this will be a laminated archtop, and I will also build the neck.

Pile o'Wood:

** Special note about the purchased neck blank... This was mentioned in the "get ready" thread - This is a rectangular cross section, so I still have to do all of the steps in making the neck, especially since it is a 34" scale blank and Starcasters are 30" scale. If anyone objects, we can call this a partial build. I won't let it be a problem.

I do have another project plan which will likely get ignored. I will not likely start work on this build until next week.

Did we just show up at a party wearing the same dress?

I had an almost identical plan, including the vac-bag from roarockit!

Wasn't sure I could pull it off so I changed my plan...

In any case, I will be spying on your build and taking notes...

Shirley you can pull it off. Check out the archtop in my profile pic. I've made a few different vac bag molds. so far.

BTW, I promise to stop calling you "Shirley" if you promise to stop wearing a dress when you spy on me.

I have two - one sized for skate decks and the other is the second largest 36" x 52". That's plenty of space for the two archtop basses that I build. These are 18" across the lower bout.

Unforseen delay... The veneer and vac bag gear will be prioritized to replace the longboard deck that was under my son, yesterday when a d-bag BMW driver (is there any other kind) drove over it. Luckily, my son went over the hood, unhurt, rather than under the wheels in pieces, like the longboard. The d-bag BMW driver (did I mention that there really is no other kind) drove off without identifying himself.

I have a skateboard deck to build.

Isn't that a hit and run and should be reported?

Yikes! Hope your boy is OK.

I was thinking he must be a real die-hard skater to be out there in -8 C temperatures with 8 cm of snow on the ground and another cm falling. Then I checked Toronto weather and realized it was about 10 C warmer and zero snow on the ground and it made more sense.
