Soooo, getting this project out of the way...

Yeah, a scratch on a beamer bumper probably costs more to fix than a longboard deck that we built ourselves.

The build thread on tdpri was very interesting. The top mold looks like you used strips of wood to define the curvature, then faired in between them with some kind of filler. Is that about right?
Yup, dry wall compound. (Good eye, BTW) Then tape over it with clear packing tape so nothing sticks. I already have left and right starcaster molds, but was waiting for the right moment to take pictures. The big vacuum bag is currently occupied by a partially completed longboard deck. Gimme a couple of days to get back on schedule.
The vac bag will be free of the longboard deck tomorrow and then be used over the next night for my other build. I can start on vacuum forming the laminated archtop panels on Wednesday. In the meantime, I cut the slightly oversized plies with alternating grain directions.
The body build method for this one is:
1) Glue up a solid core.
2) Glue a top and bottom shape frame to the core, then trim the core to the frame.
3) Wrap the frame in wiggleboard. Trim the wiggleboard flush to the top and bottom of the frame
4) Add braces to the insides of the archtop panels
5) Glue the top and bottom panels to the frame. Trim to the wiggleboard.
6) Wrap the edges in one or two layers of veneer. Trim to the top and bottom
7) Veneer binding front & back.
8) ????
9) Profit

The vac bag finally came available for the clamping the archtop panels
That is the front panel. Tomorrow I will form the back panel over the mirror image mold. Then I can get put the vac bag away and get on to everything else.

I'm done with the vacuum bag. I even got to work on the fret board.

I've routed the truss rod channel into the neck and glued it up
I'm splitting my work between two builds.
I have the fingerboard glued onto the neck and trimmed to the width.
And I got the inner wrap glued to the inner frames.

I love the frames. Much simpler than building a mold to shape the sides, and if you're doing what I think you're doing, they also replace the traditional kerfed lining.
The wiggle board does triple duty
- as structure to hold the top and bottom a consistent distance apart and
- to run the bearing against when trimming the top and bottom to the shape
- as the gluing surface for the veneers
That is the plan, but only after the tops and bottoms are applied and trimmed to the wiggle board. I will actually do a few wraps of alternating colour veneers. One build will get a round-over and the other will get binding.Does the wiggle board get veneered? (I'd guess it does, apologies if you've said it already and I wasn't paying attention)
This one will get the binding. The Toby build will likely get a 3/8" round over for comfort and look like rounded over plywood. Edit - only at the outside 3/8"
I'm setting the body aside until the neck is complete, to make sure that the area around the neck pocket is sized correctly.
I radiused the fingerboard but forgot to take a picture. I need to do the tedious bit before starting on the back of the neck.
