Tuck the edges of the tolex under the binding?
IME there's no need. It glues quite flat and with a smoothly cut edge, there don't seem to be issues even over time. The Danos are right on the surface too.
I got the neck fretted this evening. I can't remember whose build thread had a fret slot depth gauge like this.
Is this parts slated for another build I see there?!
As @Beej said, no need. This is vinyl Tolex type material from the fabric store. Cut neatly and glues nice and flat.
That was from a WBO a couple of years ago. It was a failed experiment, so it got disassembled.

I actually just bought some aluminium to experiment with this.
It's time to figure out the thing that I planned to figure out later - how and where the arches get braced, while the solid core is flat and also in the way.
I decide to rout rabbets along the sides of the core and to mount the braces there. I have some hardwood glued into the front rabbets. I will shape them tomorrow and then do the back next. The only part that will need more solid bracing is under the top-load bridge.

Continuing from yesterday...
I shaped the two front braces, with frequent test fits.
Then determined where the bridge would need to be mounted...
And glued a solid block for the bridge, to be shaped tomorrow.
I should be able to get the back braces mounted tomorrow, shaped on Monday, then mount the archtop panels.

Do the controls get mounted right to the top and hang out in open space inside? How would you do shielding?
Or will the controls be encased in their own little separate compartment?

I was going to mount the controls on the top, skip the shielding, and access the controls, if possible, only through the pick-up, jack and sound holes.
Here's the unswerving plan of the day:
1) plane & rasp the top bracing and block to match the top panel (done)
2) glue on the back panel (done)
3) glue the back braces in through the open top (tomorrow)
4) glue on the front panel (Tuesday)

I also hogged out areas for a possible switch on the lower horn and to provide access from the treble end of each pick-up. I forgot to take pictures of that too. As a consolation, I present the top panel clamp farm.

This is finally starting to look like a Starcaster body.
I have already started sanding the sides to flat. Next I will sand the front and back.
Sooner or later I'm going to have to make a decision about finish. I'm open to ideas.
