I've repaired this same mistake in the same place on more than one headstock. I should trademark it and call it my logo.

Maple sliver or not, it looks darker. I presume that is because the patch is running across the grain.
Should I try to bleach the patch with this?

You could try the bleach, but I think even lighter it would still be noticeable. What about a veneer to match the body?
Or turn it into a cigarette burn at a later point?

Make the same mistake at the other three tuner holes. Then it's jazz.

I cut the coarse thickness taper into the neck. (My turn for inappropriate use of a table saw). I will tidy it up and start on the carving tomorrow.
Nope. That would be if you'd decided to approximate the "tablesaw method for making cove molding" (yes, it's a real thing - and really scary as things to intentionally do with a tablesaurus go) freehand on your neck. Cutting a bunch of kerfs is entirely appropriate use.
I almost forgot to do the side dots while the neck still has flat sides. I had to drill out and replace a fret dot that chipped out during radiusing.
I managed to get some work done on this build tonight. Not much, but the neck is looking less unlike a neck.
Rasped and filed. I'll do the sanding tomorrow.
Wood bleach did not work on removing the colour from my trademark headstock sawcut repair.

The headstock veneer took a couple of tries. Here it is, ready for sanding
I'll work on the neck sanding, frets and finish over the weekend.
The body, however, needs a decision. So far, the experiment has been built out of whatever is lying around. adding the arched top and bottom is the point of no return. The combination of wiggle board and veneer layers is too complicated and uneven. As it stands now, it seems that at least the edge of the body will need to be filled sanded and painted. So the question is, do I revise the build method with easier assembly in mind and save the panels for that?
The options that I see are:
1) finish this body and accept that it will be painted
2) build a new body with a different type of perimeter such as commercially machined bead and cove profile
3) build a set of forms to assist in bending the sides (the whole point of the build experiment was to avoid the use of forms)
I'll keep working on the neck while I decide.

I don't think painted sides would be a bad thing. Is there another option? Vinyl wrap like a Dano?
